Best one ski quiver: mostly east coast use, some west.?
I'm looking for a great versatile "all-mountain" ski that I can use to dominate corduroy out east, handle the crap icy conditions native to this coast, but also take it out west for a week a year to mess around in powder and off-piste conditions. I'm looking for the best all-around ski: I have the budget to buy one good set but not two.

I am pampered. I get to shred the worlds best hills everyday. My ski of choice is the volkl gotama. This ski works great on everything except shear c(largely due to the ELP rocker). Because you aren't out west i would suspect that the best ski for you would be a volkl mantra would be a good choice. My dad has been skiing on a pair for the last three years. They have now replaced his aging 724 EXP as his primary ski. The mantra is a very traditional ski in that it has a large (for a bigger ski) amount of side cut as well as a decent amount of camber. This means it will be able to handle the groomers with ease but be able to float on top of western Canada's finest snow! IF you think the 96MM waist is too wide maybe look into other cambered ski's such as the K2 extreme ( i found these a little soft), volkl bridge, or even something like a volkl wall.

Dude Line Skis makes a model called the Blend (because it's a blend of all the tech. used fo different purposes, that comes together to shred the mountain all over; from parks to pipe to pow to groomers. Therefore it is, essentially, a one ski quiver. Here's the link:
http://lineskis.com/skis/blend
It includes a very informative video.
Some tech (available by link):
-100% wood core made from the widest and highest quality maple laminates. Long lasting.
-FATTY BASE & EDGE
Twice the thickness of standard base and edge, Extremely durable & impact resistant, Ability to tune your skis many more times.
-G-CUT GEOMETRY
Tightest radius is in the tail of a 5 radius sidecut, Less automatic hook up during turn initiation, Very predictable & powerful control exiting your turns, Largest variety of turn radius options.
In short, pretty much one of the most versatile skis out there. Durable; don't be afraid to beat the s*h*i*t out of it. Sickest graphic I've seen in awhile. It'll do the job.

A couple of my buddies swear by Volkl Mantras.
I ski K2 Apache Recons which seem fine to me in all but the deepest powder.
