Joke I made up!! What do you think?
A young man was in the hospital dying of cancer. All his immediate family members and some of his extended family members were gathered around his bed, wishing him the best and saying their possible last comments. A couple hours later, he seemed to be getting worse, so the doctor did another check. He was sure the man was very close to the light at the end of tunnel, and his death was 99% certain. After hearing this, his mother tearfully leaned over and said, "Sweetie, if you end up in that big place in the sky, make sure to say hi to health care reform for me!"

cancer: the killer bit - if you can't laugh at a wasting disease... well um - ok that makes sense I guess.
so in short, funny jokes are rarely based on death, but I can't imagine his mother as the person to deliver the "punch line" his Old Uncle Charlie maybe.
perhaps a tweak to the characters?
a young republican man dying in the hospital... and have his green party liberal lesbian cousin lean over and say it to him...
