Do You Believe Is Right That Non Profits Spend Donation Funds in Luxury Hotels, Cars, Etc.?

While working with the victims of Haiti's earthquake taken to the Dominican Republic, I found many individuals from different non-profits enjoying stays at luxury hotels and renting expensive cars with donation funds, as if they were vacationing (doing nothing at all for the victims). Mean while, my FL non-profit only received twenty bucks donation, and we had 92 earthquake victims to help and we used our personal savings to help them while funds lasted. The campaign on the media telling the people to donate only to "reputable" (should I say, "wasteful"?) non profits, seems to have convinced the people to donate only to those entities, instead to other smaller non-profits that really help people without wasting money.

A “nonprofit” is just a term for tax reasons. Sadly when a lot of people donate money, they have no idea where their money is actually going. However, not all nonprofits are inefficient and do their best to serve a cause (such as yours). It’s best to research a nonprofit before donating. Also never donate to a nonprofit through a telemarketing because they take a high commission percentage off the donation.

Most non profits are just money handling schemes. The more money they handle the more can be siphoned for admin fees. Yes they have to hire knowledgeable experienced full time admin people. The perks are why they work for the organization. The only thing you can do is hope they do some good and most of them do something. If it makes you feel good to donate, pick the one that is most effective.

unfortunately that's the way it works... if i might be giving donations of 1 million plus to save the puppies or the poor people of haiti, i am not going to show in a shack, and drink water for sure if i am going to give my money away!!! besides, i need to show up in my cool ferrari just to show that i have one ;=), and i am saving the world...

but you are right, too much is excessive! and they must have a tigh budget, i guess they should pay taxes as well, and review their executive pay if you ask me
