Scion xB- handling in snow?

I'm thinking about getting an xB, but here in Nebraska we can get some serious snow, ice, and so on. The xB looks like it is pretty low so might get stuck a lot. How is it in snow, snow pack, etc.? Is there a configuration that would work well?

I have a 2008 xB and it does fine in the snow in New England. It has traction control, which although not as good as AWD, helps quite a bit. It takes a little getting used to. When the xB loses grip, the traction control applies braking to the spinning wheel and power to the wheel that has traction. It pulses back and forth between the wheels as they alternately grip and lose traction. On hills, the RPM's drop way down and the impulse is to downshift, but if you just keep your foot on the gas it keeps going. You can also turn off the traction control which makes it easier to rock the xB if you do get stuck. As with AWD, traction control only helps you go in snow. It does nothing to help you stop.

If you have to drive on unplowed roads in deep snow, you really need AWD, but for normal winter driving I'm happy with the xB.

The only difference in the xB as it leaves the factory is whether it's a stick shift or an automatic. They all come with traction control, stability control and ABS. The optional accessories are all dealer installed.
