Geometry Isosceles triangle question.?

I can't figure out this question for my life. I've done it so many times, its ridiculous! please help!!

"An isosceles triangle has an area of 110 ft2. If the base is 14 ft, what is the length of the legs round the answer to the nearest tenth.

Please help, please!! Ugh.. i feel so stupid. I'm probably making a stupid mistake.

    An isosceles triangle is a triangle that has 2 sides and 2 angles the same length.

    Area of Triangle: 1/2 x Base x Height = Area

    Substituting in the value 1/2 x (14 ft) x Height = 110 ft2

    Height = 220/14 = 15.7

    If you draw an isosceles triangle with base of 14 ft with the height of 15.7 ft. (draw the perpedicular line from the top of the triangle to the base, that line should be 15.7 ft long) Now you have 2 right triangles.

    Pythagorean Theory stated that any right triangle, the area of the square whose side is the hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares whose sides are the two legs (the two sides that meet at a right angle).

    The theorem can be written as an equation: A2 + B2 = c2

    A = 14 ft x 1/2 (half of the base)

    B = 15.7 ft (the height)

    I think you can take it from here. Good luck!

    Half the base = 7 ft

    Area = ½ * base * height

    Let h = height then ½ * 7 * h = 110

    h = 220/7

    Now use Pythagoras' theorem to find the slant height = d

    d² = (220/7)² + 7²

    d = √1036.755

    d = 32.2 ft to the nearest tenth of a foot
