copying cassette to cd?
Does anyone know of a simple device i can use that allows me to transfer my cassettes to a cd .

If you have a PC with a sound-card, then you already have your device right there, all you need is a cable and some software.
Audacity software is powerful and free albeit a little 'geeky', there are other more user-friendly options that are not too expensive.

You can get USB devices, but you only need those if you don't have a soundcard with a 'LINE IN' socket

Subject to limitations, yes you can do it.
First you need a cassette player that has an audio output socket. Then you need a CD recorder that has an audio input. Connect them together, Start the cassette player then press the record button on the CD recorder. Its best to use CD RW then if you make a mistake you can start again.
I have used this method successfully with video cassettes and DVD RWs.
You can also use commercial kit; plenty on the web

No, there isn't a simple way, analog to digital is rather difficult.
