well, i recommend you to read the book "How to be funny" for Steve Allen and JaneWollman.
there is another book with the same name but the author is different his name is john max. believe these two books explain to you how to use jokes in different situation and what is the suitable time for saying them, really you will be happy and have a good sense of humor.
