Let me be more specific... about Sojos dog food mix?

I recently found a dog food mix called Sojos.. it has freeze dried veges and fruits in it amd there is a grain free formula.. and yes I know you are supposed to add fresh raw meat to it.. and that is a reason why I am looking into this dog food... I want to get as close to his natural diet as possible. Currently he is being switched to Fromm 4 star chicken formula because I found out he has a food intolerance. So Solid Gold was giving him the shits. I want peoples educated opinions on Sojos dog food mix.. Do you think it is better than an all kibble diet?? Does anyone have experience with this dog food.. and how do you dogs do on it??

Update:

Im always trying to find a better diet for him.. and I am not interested in just raw feed.. Im worried that he wouldn't be getting all the nutrients necessary for him to thrive.

Update 2:

You can not feed just raw meat... they would need supplements as well... supplements that are provided threw certain fruits or vegetables

My local health food store that actually helped me get started on raw feeding sells it.

I've looked at it. I passed.

I did bring home a sample. One of my dogs ate it. She eats anything. The other one licked it and looked at me as if to say "What the hell is this? Where's my meat?"

If you want a natural diet, feed raw meat. Replicate natural prey. That's all there is to it.

If you make sure you use a variety of meats and you use the appropriate organs, etc there is no need to be concerned about missing nutrients. They're all there.

Add: I'm sorry, you are simply wrong. You CAN just buy meat. Meat is what your carnivore has been developed for thousands of years to eat and to digest. Your dog does not posses the appropriate enzymes in his system to break down plant cells. This means he can derive very limited amounts of nutrients from them.

You are correct in that you cannot just buy ANY meat, it must be an appropriate combination of the RIGHT meats. But you most certainly can feed solely meat. It's what thousands of people with supremely healthy dogs do every single day.

The one thing you SHOULD supplement is omega 3 amino acids. This is because commercially raised livestock often contains less of it than wild animals. So, if you're not feeding a lot of wild animals or if you're not feeding fish regularly - fish oils are a good idea.

Wild canines do not eat fruit and veg unless they are starving or prey animal number are low. Dogs are carnivores not omnivores.

With the exception of MAYBE the apples(grain free formula) none of what they have in their products is anything a wild canine would come in contact or eat. A properly fed raw diet of muscle, bones and organs and fish will provide plenty of the proper nutrients. People really need to let go of this idea of balance - do you eat perfectly balanced meals three times of day of x amount of carbs, protiens, fats, etc etc etc?

Save your money and either stick with a high quality kibble or a proper raw diet without any of the extras some people would make you feel you need.

And if you need another reason why not to bother with this or any other freeze dried add in

"Why is it so important to soak the Sojos® mixture?

Soaking improves digestibility. Cats and dogs have a strong but short digestive tract designed to quickly break down and absorb foods. Grains and vegetables require more complex digestion than meats, fresh fruits, and other foods so having them soak in water at least 15-30 minutes for the European Style Mix or Monzie's, and at least 1 hour for the Europa is critical to the success of the Sojos diet. Soaking overnight in the fridge or for at least a half day is ideal."

So not only are you wasting time and money, but you are still going to be feeding your dog something they don't need and will go through their system relatively undigested.

I fed my Newfoundland a raw diet with a grain mix I bought from his breeder (all natural) and he also got yogurt/raw eggs & honey. Then 3 days per week, he got raw meat with bones (beef, chicken and fish) for his evening meals (always at least 4 hours apart from the grain mix). He did great! I want to feed my current dogs this way, but the breeder died, and I don't know enough about nutrition to trust myself to make up the grain mix myself, lol. I think I will look into this Sojos.

"Im worried that he wouldn't be getting all the nutrients necessary for him to thrive."

Dogs do NOT need vegetables and grains- they are not needed.

If you want to feed at home, just feed raw.. much easier. And trust me, they ARE getting all they need. Dogs are not herbivores and do great on meat alone. Just make sure the source is legit.

So, to answer your question.. just don't buy it to add to meat. It's not worth it.
