Is it true that plan B is the abortion pill?
I don't mean to make any one mad by asking this question.
The last time I knew it wasn't but some one told me it was... So is it or not?

NO- absolutely not, and anyone who thinks otherwise is uninformed or over-emotional.
The abortion pill is RU-486, completely different. Plan B doesn't cause an abortion, it just stops the egg from being implanted and causes a period. Distinctly not an abortion!

This is a tough question really. It can be a form of early abortion and many pro lifers see no difference. But it really depends on how Plan B works. Which is one of two ways.
1. Plan B may prevent an egg from being released from the ovary, preventing fertilization. In that case it is NOT an abortion because the egg and sperm never meet.
2. Plan B may also prevent an already fertilized egg from attaching to the womb. That is where the argument of abortion comes in. Before implantation, the fertilized egg is called a zygote and is biologically alive because it fulfills the four criteria needed to establish biological life which are: metabolism, growth, reaction to stimuli, and reproduction.
So technically it is stopping a life form from continuing, however it is very far from an abortion pill.
The abortion pill starves an embryo of nutrients then expels it from the womb. An embryo has a heart beat by 4 weeks and is often very human looking.
Really it's always open to argument and can be answered either yes or no.
Edit: If a fertilized egg is already attached to the womb than it becomes an embryo. At that point Plan B will not work and the pregnancy continues.

No, it prevents pregnancy it is not an abortificant. RU 486 is methotrexate and misoprostal, it's actually a series of pills that will cause a termination - this is NOT the same thing as Plan B and must be administered by a doctor while Plan B is for over the counter use.

nope, completely untrue actually. they serve two different purposes and work completely different from one another. abortion pill (name: RU486) results in a termination of a pregnancy and is only used after pregnancy is established while plan B is used to prevent pregnancy when taken within 5 days after unprotected intercourse. It will not harm an existing pregnancy and does not cause an abortion.

No, it's not the same thing. The Plan B prevents fertilization, that's why you only have 72 hours to take it. The abortion pill will terminate an early pregnancy after it has already happened.

If you are already pregnant Plan B will do nothing.
Plan B is made to "kill" off sperm... not a fertilized egg.
There is an abortion pill, but it can only be used in very early pregnancy and given to you by a DR or Planned Parenthood. It's called RU 486.

It is not, the plan B does not actually kill a fetus but rather stops the beginning of development. If you are already pregnant when you take the Plan B, the pill will not kill the fetus.

No plan b is the emergency contraceptive (birth control) it prevents you from getting pregnant, the abortion pill kills the baby if you are already pregnant. Two separate pills, two separate functions.

NO. plan B is only effective up to 72 hours after sex at preventing pregnancy and does not abort an existing pregnancy.
