ASUS motherboard won't go online?

ASUS board P5N-E SLI

Says there is no connection to the internet, yet the ethernet cable is in & working. Device manager lists several yellow question marks under "Other devices".

1.) ? Audio Device on High Definition bus

2.) ? Other PCI brigde Device

3.) ? PCI Device

4.) ? SM Bus Controller

5.) ? Unknown Device

6.) ? Video Controller ( VGA Compatible)

I've downloaded every driver update from ASUS available, but they all came out in some code, & will not install. Have not a clue how to install these , or even if they will solve issue, since they won't install. I burned a cd on my laptop of every update, put it in tower & opened the RAR files, but they were just wierd alpha/numeric codes, & did not install. They cannot be directly installed to the tower, because it does not recognize the ethernet connection. It's hooked to the internet, but it does not know it!

Check your Network Adapters in Device manager if it has yellow question mark. If it does, you need the driver for that as well. http://www.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_ID=KyHOsOKWujC2... choose your OS and download the drivers.

First thing first, check the ethernet cable on the back of your PC if it has green light blinking. If it does, then your are good. If not, try to unplug and replug it. Green light indicates there is a physical connection between two nodes.

Open command prompt and type in "ipconfig /all | more" (no quotations)

Check your IPv4 address, if it says 169.254.x.x, it means you have APIPA ip which it won't let you go to the internet.

Also, check the default gateway, make sure it is the same as your routers ip.

If you get 169.254.x.x IP, then type in "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew"

That should give you new IP address.

If you can’t find the right Asus drivers manually I would recommend just getting a software program that can do it for you. There is a program I use which will find drivers for just about all hardware devices. The best part is it takes a snapshot of your system specifications and matches the right driver to go with it. Perform a free driver scan at:

Also, you can get the driver from their official sites:

Asus motherboards come with a CD that has the ethernet drivers you need on it.
