How would you react in this situation?

Suppose you went to visit someone in their home for the first time and upon entering the living room, saw a live panther lounging on their sofa. What would your reaction be?

If nothing had been said of it, I would probably at first think it was a dog. It would not take long to recognize the difference and by that time, unless I had entered the house on my own, which is highly unlikely, the owner of the house would have more than likely made some comment about the big cat. I wouldn't try to touch it. Not at first. I know the cat would be watching me. Gauging me. Weighing me up, just as I would be doing it. But that first moment would pass. I wouldn't approach it. That is something that I think would be better, if the cat came to me. But I wouldn't show it fear. If at any time, it looked agitated at my presence, I would focus my sight on its rear foot, diverting its attention (I'm unsure if this works for big cats, but I know it does when it comes to horses and cows and a whole host of other animals). This is all assuming that it didn't spring to its feet and pounce. If that's the case, I would be looking for a pair of clean trousers...

I would be like "Whoah cool panther, do you have a license to keep that? Cool, are its teeth blunted?" Then I would go pet the panther if the answer to the second question was yes

This is a beautiful question Karen.

I've always loved felines, and after I lost my "russian blue", I mourned like a person who had lost one of their best friends.

I decided that if I ever had another cat, it would be a Bengal Tiger.

And now that I re-think it....a Panther would be just fine too! :)

So...my reaction would be one of delight!!!!

The first question that would be in my mind and first reaction would probably be to ask "Why do you have a panther? And more importantly, Why do you let it on the furniture?"

Does he bite? Does he have a cage? More importantly, does he know how to get out of that cage. These questions would enter my head on the way out the door.

if it was a guy I was dating: Wow...he's a keeper! Can I pet it?

if it was a friend: Can I pet it?
