Sick puppy, please help :(?
Hey everyone.
Im reposting this question due to so much negativity that there werent even answers, just yelling.
Let me make it clear, I did contact a Vet as soon as this all happened, and the Vet said that due to the age of the puppy, there isn't anything they can do as surgey etc cannot be performed on such a young animal. I am, however seeing a Vet tomorrow.
My dog just had a litter of puppies, which was unplanned - she came on heat for the first time, and another dog managed to get into our yard etc etc.
She had 5 puppies, all were very healthy and fine. We werent home when she went and had them, and unfortunately one of them feel off the stairs onto the floor below.
He seems to be getting better. As concerned as i am, although vet treatment is unavailable until tomorrow, they couldn't do anything (As they suggested on the phone) because he is so young. Its just a live/death situation.
At first he was very cold, breathing irregularly, not eating and seems to be falling asleep then awaking and whining (Like the others) as if he is hungry.
Today, he is a bit warmer, and although his breathing doesnt look right, it is faster then yesterday. He still isn't eating, and we introduced powder milk that we try and get him to lick up. Which he does, to a degree. I worry he is in alot of pain because of the whining, but realise its similar to the other pups.
Now, please don't say that im in-equipped to have puppies because this is not planned. And this is the first time she was on heat. Nor, don't say that im not humane not getting it medical attention earlier, i have tried - and due to the nature Vets can't do anything so early on.
The other puppies sometimes come and snuggle into him, and thats when he usually starts whining (I guess it wakes him). He doesn't whine when we have him wrapped up for warmth when we feed him.
So, i guess my question is, what can i do to make tonight (2nd) night better for the poor pup. If the vet deems it appropriate tomorrow, i will have to let the Vet put it out of his misery. So yes, anything i can do to help him eat and get warmer, especially feel more conformable.
Thanks.

Your puppy is unlikely to be able to lick up milk at just two days old. So if you can get a syringe barrel and dribble the milk into his mouth to make sure he is getting a good feed.
He will need to be fed every two hours - day and night to avoid dehydration. Make sure that you follow the directions on the can of formula carefully as using the wrong strength of formula could cause even more problems.
It is best if he is feeding from his mother. If you can attach him to a nipple, just watch his tail. If it is erect he is getting a good feed.
Cold can kill a newborn puppy quicker than anything so make sure that he is always kept warm until you can get him to a Vet.
Good Luck

What, if any, diagnostics were done? I don't think that going to a new vet is the answer. I would go back to the original vet because they are most familiar with the case. It is unfair to assume that this vomiting episode is a continuation of the last one and that it is the vet's fault. Particularly if the vomiting had stopped for 10 days. If you brought this case to me, I would repeat a fecal, do some bloodwork, and take radiographs to check for obstructions. The fuzz in the vomit makes me think that a foreign body could be the fault. Hypoglycemia, which is common in these little guys, can also cause vomiting.

Hmm, that is a tough situation. If it were me I would leave the puppy alone to be with his litter mates. They will keep him warm and being with Mom may help. Unless they are trampling him... then he needs to be away from them. Maybe if the other pups could be removed for a bit to give him some alone time with Mommy? There's is really not a whole lot that you can do other than the vet which you have arranged for. I hope he is ok but don't get too attached :(
Don't forget to make plans to get your girl spayed!

Good lord, you tried to post it again and you still got stragglers who'll harp on you for not getting your dog spayed!!
About 2 weeks after her milk is dried up, spay her please. End of story.
Puppies can be taken away from mom at 8 weeks of age.
Introduce hot water-soaked kibble or canned dog food to them to supplement mom's milk around 3-4 weeks.
Do not feed them cow's milk.
Mix some raw egg into mom's food for added protein and nutrients.
As for the puppy, keep him warm and content. Make sure he gets lots of fluids, so about 3cc's of room-temp water every 2 hours, very slowly and only as much as he'll take in. You can give 1cc of plain Pedialyte every 2 hours instead of water to supplement his eating (if he is). He missed out on some critical colostrum already.
Have the vet euthanize him in the morning if necessary. Do not use Banfield (franchised to Petsmart).
When you call the vet, tell them it's for a critically injured newborn puppy.
They'll push you through, trust me.
Research whelping box requirements please, and have the vet come to your home for a wellness check in a week or two, provided there are no other incidents with the pups.
Don't forget to feed mom a high-quality protein enriched diet.

Sounds like the pup has internal injuries or broken ribs. Yes just keep him warm so that he does not go into shock. Have the vet put it to sleep. It's the best thing you can do for it.
You are a caring & kind hearted person.

Okay I understand what you are going through. we have had two unplanned pregnancies ( liter)
we have a puppy that was a runt and had simular problems, to keep him warm i could suggest placing him underneath ur shirt. body heat will warm him lke a heator. make sure he is warm throughtout the night and try to feed him every two hours. if u can try to stay up and watch a movie or something so that u can catch if something would be wrong. you could always take him to a emergency pet office if needed. they do have those and u would have to research a place near you.that is all i know. our pup died because we couldn't keep him warm and deformed pups usually don't live long. Hope it helps!!! tell the pup I will be praying for him! and i love him! lol!

basically just feed him regularly how the directions say on the powder milk carton. Try to keep him warm if that doesn't help put him with his mom. He will be fine just be positive. But make sure you get him to that vet as soon as you can :) Good-luck

My sister is a vet and I run a rescue so I have dealt with puppies this age quite often and have a million questions to ask about him.
Once I have more info, I can give her a call and we'll go from there.

some people are so wrong here its not a place to argue its a place to help people from answering the question, well this is what i think maybe its because the puppy fell of the stairs at such a unable age this may have caused brian damage or internal pains/bleeding, i wish i new more so could help but i do not, but i hope this helps and that your puppy recovers. good luck. : )

You should have gotten her fixed before she went into heat or once you found out she was pregnant. You're just making more unwanted dogs. Your puppies aren't special and aren't going to be treated differently than all of the young dogs that end up put down in shelters. It's sad. Get the puppy to the vet when it opens and get him x-rayed. Something is likely broken or punctured. If he can't be helped this young have him put down to save him the misery of growing up with a broken limb or something equally or more painful.
