how to fix a cloudy tank?
my 27 gallon tank is cloudy and I can't figure out how to fix it. I've had it up and running for over a year, the nitrite, ammonia, nitrate and ph levels are all normal, and nothing has changed in the tank lately. No new fish. It's been really cloudy for at least 4 days now. I've tried doing partial water changes and changing the filter. Nothing is working...any suggestions would be appreciated-thanks!

look at whether or not your fish are being overfed. This can also cause the water to get cloudy. Just check the bottom of the tank for leftover food - that would be a sure sign of overfeeding.

Get ready, there are going to be a lot of people in about five seconds wanting you to go back in time and not do what you've already done. I'll just try to help from here. The cloudiness is a normal part of "cycling" the aquarium. It will go away, but you should go out and buy some Nutrafin Cycle or some other product that can speed up cycling of the tank. It needs beneficial bacteria - yesterday. Also, go buy an ammonia test kit and use it every day. Do a 50% water change if you see any ammonia. That shouldn't be too much of a task with that size tank. Don't buy any more fish. What you have is enough for that size tank. The filter should be completely submerged. Please, please, please take a moment or two to read up on aquarium cycling online. There is a LOT of information on it. It's very important to understand if you're going to keep those fish alive. You bought somebody you loved a beautiful gift. I think it was sweet. Now, if you do some research, things should turn out okay.

First you have to put the fish into a separate tank or bowl ( obviously filled with clean water ) and then empty the water out of the tank into a large bason.
After that get a sponge, a cloth or a wipe. If you are using one of these sources make sure that any soap or foam on them will not do anything to the fish. Clean around the whole of the tank and then clean the stones or whatever you have at the bottom.
Once you have cleaned everything in the tank put fresh water in and put the fish back in.
I hope this answer is ok and the tank isn't cloudy anymore. Bye!

If your chemistry levels are all "normal" (I assume you mean at safe levels), it shouldn't be anything to worry about. It should clear up on it's on. It may be a bacteria bloom that happens when/ if you change too much of your filters media all at one time.
Do a 25% - 50% water change today and again in two day. Just make sure the fresh water is dechlorinated/ conditioned, and it's the same temperature as the tank water.

If those levels are normal and it is a white cloudy as opposed to a green cloudy then it is likely a bacteria bloom. Nothing to worry about it will sort itself out shortly. If it is a green cloudy then it is a form of algae and if you don't have anything sensitive to algaecide (live plants, snails etc) then it will clear it up.

What color is the cloudiness? Is it cloudy gray, cloudy green, cloudy yellow, cloudy brown ...?
Because these indicate different underlying causes for the cloudiness.
Also, is is a freshwater or saltwater tank?
