who do i talk to about adopting an orphan from Haiti?

cause my family and i (that being my mom, sister, brother and me) want to adopt one orphan from Haiti we just don't know who to talk to BTW i'm 17 (so the orphan isn't for me) and we live in Canada i just can't stand to see those kids suffering like that so if anyone knows anything please please please let me know!! it would be greatly appreciated

Update:

my mom has once before sponsored a child but we never got any pictures of the child or any info on him/her either so yeah at the moment not really an option

Update 2:

what i meant by "so the child is not for me" is i don't want people thinking that i'm desperate for a child of my own i'm sorry if i offended anybody

Update 3:

if anyone has any suggestions for any other places that would be greatly appreciated as well

All new adoptions from Haiti are on hold right now. What about sponsoring a child instead? By sponsoring a child you will guarantee they will get food, clothing, shelter until their parents or extended family can be located.

Unless your family was in process to adopt a child from Haiti before the earthquake, you're out of luck. Haiti is not processing any new adoptions. They are in no position to do any of the necessary legal and investigative work that must take place before an adoption is completed. There is no way, at this point, to even determine whether or not the children we see on TV can be reunited with living biological relatives. I know the knee-jerk reaction to seeing the devastation is to reach out and help these children, but international adoption is extremely complicated and shouldn't be undertaken lightly.

"so the orphan isn't for me"... Good Lord! That says a lot about how you view adoption and the desire you THINK you feel to "help" a poor, suffering child.

News flash, sweetie: Any child who gets adopted is not FOR anyone. Children are not things, gifts, or anything else that could be FOR another person. Sheesh!

I am an adult adoptee and the idea that I was adopted FOR anyone other than ME is repulsive -- it turns my stomach. (Incidentally, I was NOT adopted for me... and my life as a child was very little other than suffering because of it. That is, my life AFTER adoption was miserable.)

Like others have said, all adoptions from Haiti are suspended right now. NOBODY can adopt a child from Haiti that wasn't already in the process and matched with a child BEFORE the earthquakes.

There are MANY ethical, reputable aid agencies that are sending people, supplies, food and building materials to help ALL the people of Haiti (not just the "orphans" -- who cannot even be classed as orphans yet, as the search for survivors AND the deceased is far from complete) to recover and rebuild. Why not contribute a little of the money you clearly have to spend (because adoption is NOT cheap) to an organization that can and will improve the situation for MANY Haitians, including the children?

Put on the brakes, love, and take a few deep breaths. It will be a good, long time before your mother (or anyone else) might even consider adoption from Haiti. Find a more productive channel for your concern and energy at present.

    Take care~

for now you can't, the country has cut adoptions for the time being to avoid accidentally separating kids from their families (some orphans aren't even officially orphans since their parents are classified as missing... for now the government and aid countries aren't allowing adoption out of Haiti,,,, if adoption option end up opening you speak to an international adoption agency

You'll just have to contact different adoption agencies until you locate one that provides children from that area.

I just read an article, on the children who lost parents and family (in Haiti). Once they begin walking the streets, for food, people (driving pick ups) are offering them food and shelter if they get in the truck. The only problem with this is they are actually picking kids up for 'human trafficking' and there should be a law against this. These poor kids have just lost their parents/family and people are taking advantage of this and turning them into sex slaves.

  • If you want to help kids in Haiti, donate your time or money to helping rebuild, feed, and clothe these kids.

You can also look into a church or something in your area that might be making care packages and kits of essentials for Haitians.
