Does myspace contain viruses?

I was just on Myspace and suddenly a virus alert popped up and said I had hundreds of viruses, then it wanted me to download this software to get rid of it. I didnt have any anitvirus software installed, so I just got avast. I am thinking that that popup was a virus.

My question is, does myspace contain viruses?

Looks like you received a pop-up from a mal-ware site. They make it sound like you have lots of viruses so you go to their website and download *actual* viruses.

You should not trust anything that pops up unless you are 100% sure it originates from your anti-virus software and is definitely not a website.

You can test if it is a website by right clicking on the pop-up and seeing if one of the options is "view source" That would indicate it is actually a "chrome-less" browser window (pretending to be an anti-virus window)

If you are worried that you have infections then run your native anti-virus (this will often be in the "system tray" - that's the bottom right of your screen if you are running Windows) and get it to perform a system scan. This will take time and slow your computer to a crawl though.

when you see that on a website that has alot of people on it like twitter myspace facebook ect its a popup thing that says youve got viruses, its not real if you click on it it will give you viruses and the virus will show this popup to download a removal thing, well thats a scam becuase youve got to buy it and it doesnt do anything. Just ignore popups like that or any ads and you will be safe.

I've never heard of Myspace containing viruses but the pop-up was most likely a virus. My suggestion, buy webroot antivirus and install it to your computer.

Yes, there is a virus floating around in myspace. A co-worker of mine just got caught by one on the office computer. Be careful!

i think so because my sister kept on going on myspace and once when she turned on the computer random voices started talking about myspace, when nothing was on. then she called me(and being the genius i am[jk]) and i tried to fix it. we restarted it like 10 times.that didnt help. so then we just didnt go on the computer for the rest of the day. and it stopped. so i told my sister to not go on it for a while and thats wat she did. and now its fine.

feels like a rogue anti-virus. don't have faith a word it tells you. See how your test is going. in case you have no pop-united statesafter rebooting, you should be ok. in case you DO get pop-ups, and have a difficulty fixing the project, supply greater info. wish this facilitates.

no... that's just a way for shady "virus protection" companies to get you to use their crappy product... I really loathe them.. they know that you'll freak out and buy their stupid product that won't work good and you'll spend like 30 dollars for it...

    just ignore that crap...

Get Norton anti virus... i've never had a problem with them! I think it's 50 bucks a year!
