Humidifier cleaning, am I doing something wrong?
I have a Crane cool mist humidifier and it is really starting to give me trouble. The first two months I had it it was fine, I cleaned and refilled the tank every day, never let water sit in it when it wasn't running, and I bleached it every three days. I cleaned the base with soap every week and used bleach every other week. That has been fine. But all of the sudden I have noticed that the base gets this pink mold in it within 24 hours, even after being bleached. I can't bleach it EVERY day! Is there something I am doing wrong or something else I should do to keep the mold away? Would a new filter help?
If it is mildew, is there something different I should be doing? I am limited in my options because I live in a dorm room and don't know of any stores nearby that sell much, and without a humidifier our noses bleed it's so dry here. Maybe there is a crevice somewhere I've missed, but I can't submerge the base so if I've missed it I'm not sure what to do.
If I fill up the basin in the base and put effredent or something in it, would that be adequate to clean up anything I've missed?

Sounds like the mold has taken hold in a crevice or something. Might actually be in the water you are using - try using some distilled water in it and see if it does it, then you will know. If that doesn't work, I like to use something called "Tea tree oil" you can get from walmart in the vitamin area - add a few drops to the water, it is anti-microbal and has a nice aroma (kinda... some people can't stand the smell). The other user is right btw, mold isn't pink - it's probably mildew. That stuff grows quickly and loves water.

Mold is never pink.
But the use of bleach may be causing a chemical caustic reaction.
Don't be bothered too much make sure you follow proper cleaning instructions. Remember that if you are in doubt throw it out! It is often recommended to use not tap water but pure bottled water but not just pure bottled water, distilled water.

each little thing i've got study mentioned that heat mist has much less threat of bacteria because of the fact the water is boiled in the previous it is emitted as mist. That mentioned, it is complicated -- the Dr. Sears e book says to apply heat mist and the yank Pediatrics Academy recommends cool mist. i could desire to purchase one too and am nonetheless uncertain. one element approximately cool mist, there's a difficulty approximately minerals being emitted into the air - however the way around which would be to purchase an ultrasonic variety with a clear out, or to apply distilled water. additionally the two heat and cool mist must be wiped sparkling approximately weekly with a mix of bleach and water and then rinsed nicely.
