Christians - explain to me the age of accountability with the bible as evidence?

I've heard in church before and from the mouths of other Christians that there is such a thing known as the age of accountability which sends all children to heaven. I have a problem though because I don't see this concept anywhere in scripture. Actually, the implications of this doctrine (if it even is one) are really frightening because it would seem to imply that a person has to be able of his/her OWN ability/capability/understanding to be saved.

That would imply that Jesus' death on calvary was not enough - it also takes something else. It makes grace and mercy no longer grace and mercy.

So for those that think that the age of accountability is something other than conception, please show me with scripture where the bible speaks of this special age. I would like to know the age especially.

Update:

Edit* -

Peachfuz - You are reading the text out of your tradition which is causing you to say that. I agree - anyone who believes will be saved, but is belief a decision that you make or is it the result of what God did?

Look at the beginning of John 3 to Jesus conversation with Nicodemus. A person is born again, not by the flesh, not by the will of man but by the will of God. Belief is a result of being born again.

The carnal mind is enmity with God (Romans 8). It does not seek spiritual things.

Not a bad try, but you didn't even give me an "age".

Update 2:

reflexology and the guy who posted after him and basically said the same thing-

Well, you didn't use the bible. 1 Corinthians 3:19 says the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. Just because modern psychology affirms something, doesn't mean that it is in agreement with Gods decree, which you never showed me to even be a decree. As for your question from David Currie - Deuteronomy 4:2, Proverbs 30:6, Revelation 22:18.

Children who have not yet reached the age of reason (knowing right from wrong) if they die are not automatically condemned to hell because they have not made a conscious decision on whatever evangelical formulas you have for salvation. This kind of theology is seriously flawed.

Nobody makes a conscious choice to inherit original sin from Adam, so a conscious choice in not needed to have sanctifying grace restored. That is why babies need baptism. for the sins we commit by a conscious choice, we need confession. Many Protestant churches have abandoned the teaching of original sin.

Children grow into moral responsibility somewhere around the age of 7. The Bible does not spell this out, but psychologists will agree with the Church.

You have a good question. Here is another: Where in the bible does it say that only doctrines explicitly found in the bible are trustworthy? David Currie, a professor in the Moody Bible Insitute, asked this question to his fellow professors, and they didn't have an answer. Why?

Because it is a man made doctrine. It's nowhere to be found in the Bible. This doctrine is rigidly adhered to by Protestants. But the Bible says not everything about Jesus is in the bible.

BTW, David Currie wrote the book, "Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic". It's a great read.

I think you mean " The age of reason".

It's been called the "Age of Reason," since these children have a newly internalized sense of right and wrong. They are no longer focused simply on not getting caught or displeasing adults. They have made up their minds about what is right or wrong, identifying with their primary caregivers' expressed values and applying them quite rigidly.

Many cultures throughout history have observed this growth spurt by raising expectations and offering new privileges. In Medieval times, court apprenticeships began at 7; so too did apprenticeships at the time of the Guilds, and in English Common Law, children under 7 were not considered responsible for their behavior. The Catholic Church offers first Communion at about age 7; it's also when formal schooling begins in most societies.

Wow! One of the heaviest subject of Theology.

The Age of Accountability is not about Scriptural terminology, it is a commonly used description of an Important Biblical Concept.

A young person is too young therefore not yet able to understand the full result of his or her actions.

Abd yet others say children are automatically guaranteed Salvation because God loves Chilren.

I'm in Seminary yet I am not wise enough to answer this deep Theological subject. Sorry!

Well, man has spent centuries of compiling and building upon their colleagues' research to determine and origin of both species and universe that makes sense and complies with the facts in today's present world. But I can't understand all those big words, so I'm taking the route that's easy on the brain and saying the giant bearded man in the sky snapped his fingers and we all poofed into existence. WOO GODS GONNA BURN ALL THE ******* AND JEWS AND ******* HHHRWAAAW!

    OK

    John 3:16 (New International Version)

16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[a] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Note here , that the key word in this verse is "believes"

This indicates that a person must be able to make a choice.

They cannot make a choice, if they do not understand what that choice involves.

    This indicates learning first.

When a person learns what it means to be a follower of Christ, than they can make that choice.

There is no set age that this can occur.

It is when a person is able to understand what it means to choose or reject Christ!

Totally agree. Just one of the teaching flaws.
