Should I ask the dude out that i really like?

i like this guy a lot but i dont know if i should ask him out cause my friend said when you ask a dude out you dont last long as a dude asking a girl out then you last long but im shy person to tell him how i feel bout him and at the same time asking him out.But good thing is that me and him are really good friend and right now we are started to know each other more but i hope that we stay friend for very LONG Time cause i already told him that i really love him like friend i know it sound weird but what ever but i just need help from other people from the world...SO who every help me Thank YOU sO MUCH...

but should i ask him OUT or what???
