I want to believe...but?

I want to believe there is a god, if not for the fear of life being pointless, I go to church regularly, read the bible daily, pray nightly, yet so many questions go unanswered, how can we know the bible is complete truth when it was man's interpretation of what god was saying? How can we be so sure that there is an after life, ancient Egypt Rome and what not believed in many gods and a different type of afterlife, but we mock them and say how stupid could they have been to believe that, yet we believe in a god and an afterlife. There are so many different religions they all can't be completely wrong or right, but yet people go to war over it, who says that there can't be 72 virgins for a suicide bomber, we have no actual clue what heaven is like if there is one. So I guess my question is how do you know that there is a god, or there is an afterlife?

I don't really know. That's the whole reason I became an Eclectic Pagan, instead of staying a Christian. You just need to find which religion calls to you the most. Paganism, called to me, because of its love for the earth around us and the many Gods and Goddesses which protect all the aspects of life. I may be wrong, but my religion is very open, and I have been at such a peaceful state ever since I came back to Paganism(I believe in past lives). If your religion isn't working for you, study others until you find the right one for you. After all, Why would God send us to "Hell" if we didn't know what to do? :D Good luck.

there are so many signs of God, read the Quran, its not only a book of signs but also a book of science. what is the purpose of death , if there is no afterlife, people can just go on erring if there is no accountability.

A true Divine Book should stand the test of time, sadly bible has been changed by the priests from time to time, to suit them according to their needs, they made unlawful things lawful, and lawful things unlawful, on the other hand, not a single alphabet of the Holy Quran has been changed TILL date.

Its true that no religion can be completely wrong or right, for example murder and rape are wrong in every religion, likewise we Muslims believe that the Bible was sent by God to the prophet Jesus, but we don't follow it because its no more in the pure form, it has been manipulated. Hence we follow the bible, what ever matches with the Quran and we don't follow what contradicts with Quran. The Quran does not contradict with the established science.

For your information, Islam does not allow any muslim to kill an innocent person.

Yes, we have no reason to assume anything about what happens after we die.

Which is why i think that the majority of religions are completely and utterly pointless.

p.s; the fact that YOU mock them and say they're stupid reveals a lot about the way you feel about your religion.

To believe means that you're seeking God. Don't start your search by trying to figure out which religion or denomination is best. Look instead toward meeting God in your everyday life. If God indeed wants you to seek Him, He must reveal Himself.

How do we find God? We find Him in our everyday lives by trying to obey His command to love one another for where love is, there God is also.

There is a short story by the great Russian author, Leo Tolstoy. It's fairly short and it's on the internet at:

Tolstoy shows us how we are to live. It was a powerful influence on my life.

From your own willingness and openness to learn on both subject

God exist alright, you got my word on that, but it is not what you think or what you been told

God is bigger then the words of the bibles my friend, and we should limit our self to one book

for gain of knowledge on any subject of God,Christ,or after life experience or understanding

you want to believe in...what? afterlife? religion?

sorry, but there's no reason to believe in anything you can't verify

if it's there, it doesn't matter because it's pointless to worry about it

you want to believe..but...you're beginning to realise that something doesn't quite add up. Amazingly, when you take God out of the equation, everything suddenly does.
