3/4 Ton axle swap in 1/2 ton Chevy?

I have an 87 1/2 ton longbed pickup w/ 350. Im putting in a 454 with a turbo 400. Its got 37 in tires a and 6 inch lift. I want to swap out the 1/2 ton axles with all the power and tires on the truck. I dont know too much about mudding and the common axles used. Ive been googling and found maybe 14 bolts and Danas would be a good choice. But not sure about what to watch out for when buying used axles and the maintnance/check up on them, ect. Any help and direction in what to do would be helpful, thanks.

Update:

Yeah I know all that, Im thinking like 4 11's. Im just trying to figure out what a good axle is, ya kno, the most durable? Thanks tho

you will have to match the front rear end to the back if it,s a 4 wheel drive. make sure the gear ratio is the same in the front as the back.

The Dana forty 4 isn't any extra desirable than the corporate 10 bolt. So do no longer issue approximately that. the three/4 ton stuff off of any year ('seventy 3-87) will artwork. All 8 lug, so new wheels in spite of everything. you do no longer choose a 14FF, you need to use a 14SF, it is going to postpone no issue. do no longer overlook, the '88-ninety one Suburbans ought to be 3/4 ton as nicely, so extra ability donors for you. you are able to run the 14FF, besides the undeniable fact that it weighs a lot extra, and expenses extra in floor clearance. oftentimes besides the undeniable fact that, a D44 or 10 bolt/14FF mixture could be bought for truly little. 3.seventy 3 ought to be your bare minimum for gearing, 4.10 would be undemanding to locate, and artwork good with those length tires. you will destroy the rear 10 bolt for particular with that length tire, off-highway, and the small hub 10 bolt won't like them the two.

You would want to use a gear ratio that fits your needs. Consider the size of the tires and even though you want to run in mud it should be street-able, like having the engine run at good rpm's at highway speeds. You may want to do more research. Good luck.
