  • 700r4 with Vortech 350?

Hello, I have a buddy with a 96 Chevy Vortech 350 that came with the 4L60E tranny. The guy he bought it from put a Turbo 350 in the truck and it blew up......My friend is now having trouble deciding whether or not to put a 700r4 tranny in it, or find the original tranny, or just get a different truck.

I was thinking that bolting a 700r4 up to the Vortech motor wouldn't be an issue, nor would lengths of drive shafts matter, etc.....but since its not electronic, the motor would run like **** hooked up to it? I have no idea, we are in high school still, were no ASE techs lol, just backyard boys.

    Any help appreciated.

  • 87 Chevy 350 throttle body almost stalls?

I just got done restoring an 87 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup with a 350 throttle body. It has been sitting for 2 years periodically being idled and run up and down a street....and I have now begun driving it and have put 50 miles on it.

The engine is a stock 350 TBI with 140,000 miles on it. Only tweaks are headers, eliminated air pump and cats, new plugs and wires, new radiator, and tranny lines. Truck seems to run good and has good oil pressure and temp....my only issue is after running it pretty good for a decent distance and coming to a stop or idle, the truck starts bogging out and sounds like its cammed and about to stall and i rev it to keep it running....and then after like 5-10 seconds it returns to a normal idle.....but I have to always put it in park to keep it wound up ( automatic ). I am also getting an engine light after driving around for a few minutes but I assumed it had something to do with the cats and air pump off.

Any simple ideas of what it could be? I know it is a broad statement, but I figured I'd post anyway. I was thinking fuel issue.......btw I am from Connecticut and it hasn't gotten above 30 since I have begun driving it, so maybe that has something do with it.....all though it happens after the truck is warmed up.

  • Best seats at New Hampshire?

For anyone who has been to Loudon before....

Is there a difference between turns 3/4 seating and 1/2 besides the actual position to the racetrack? I always hear people like 1/2 more for some odd reason. I was thinking row 25 would be high enough.

I would appreciate for anyone who has been there to post where they sat and how they liked the view.

  • Which southern track to go to?

I am planning for a race to go to in the first half of 2011 or during summer down south. It's either going to be Darlington, Martinsville, Richmond, Charlotte, or Atlanta.

I've been to Talladega, Loudon, and Dover.

Any advice appreciated, we use a camper and stay at parks away from the track usually.

  • How much mpg do you loose adding horsepower?

I have a 1987 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup with a 350 throttle body, 4 speed auto (700r4), 3.64 gears, 37 in tires, stock motor besides headers.

I get a little under 10 mpg now. I plan on rebuilding another 350 with throttle body to replace this one that will be built for mild power. I want to cam it, redo the top end, put forged parts, double chain, bigger throttle body rebuild, intake, ported, typical power adders in a 350....and I was considering boring it over like .10 or .20

My question is....what kind of loss of mpg will I be looking at with those type of power adders or possibly with a bigger bore, or possibly hookin it up to a turbo 400 (of course i will loose highway mpg without fourth gear, but I figure Ide just throw that idea out there). So if you have experience with this kinda thing or have a car you repowered or built up...maybe you could tell me what mpg loss you took.

    Any advice appreciated.

  • Cat wound with stitches?

Hello, my indoor cat had snuck out for a few days and came back, and was fine for a couple weeks untill her apparent bite puncture/abscess started to appear. We brought it to the vet, they cut her open to let the puss out and put a cloth "drain" entering in one spot and exiting in another spot. They stitched her back up and its about a one inch incision. This wound is right under her right front leg at the top and she can lick/bite at it, and scratch at it which she has been doing.

She bites at the tied drain and Im worried she will rip her self open even more, and if she scratched the stitches she may rip that open because it doesn't even look that "patched up" It appears open but the vet insists thats fine.....

Any opinions? Do cats have thick layers of skin, am I missing something? I appreciate any help.

  • Yellowstone vs Grand Canyon?

Hello, I know its been asked many time, but I want to ask with the details of what I like if that makes sense.

I am planning to go on a 3 week trip next summer from Connecticut. If I choose Yellowstone, I would check out the Grand Tetons and the Badlands/Mt.Rushmore area of SD on the way there.

If I go to the Grand Canyon I will also check out Las Vegas and Lake Mead (not staying, just site seeing), Sedona, AZ and possibly Arches Nat. Park which seems a bit out of the way.

We are going in a camper that we tow with a big rig with 2 adults and one young adult (18). We do not hike that much but will walk to sites up to an hour away from roadside, etc. We like train rides which is why I like Arizona for the Grand Canyon RR and the one down in Cottonwood. We have never been out west, and have mostly been camping in the mountains of NH/VT and VA/TN so thought the southwest would change things up, but Yellowstone does look very nice.

Im just really confused what to do. I appreciate any advice and opinions and will check back to answer your questions to help narrow down my choice better. = )

  • Ebay/Paypal age requirements?

Hello, I am 17 years old (turn 18 in April). I would like to sell some things on ebay but I need to be 18 for a Pay Pal account and ebay account. So is it legal to set those accounts up under my parents name, and use my debit card with them and when I turn 18, create my own Pay Pal and Ebay accounts with that same debit card?

Any help appreciated, pretty new to this.

  • Shift kit/Manual Valve Body on 700R4?

Hello, I dont know much at all about trannys.

I have an 87 lifted Chevy with a 700r4 transmission (4 speed auto)

I was told a **** kit would be ideal for harder shifts to save the tranny during mudding and for higher horsepower. I also read about manual valve bodies? I know I shift kit just makes it shift harder and I dont about the manual valve body?

Will any of these allow me to shift or do they just change the rpm and timing of the shifts. I have rebuilt motors, put in trannyss, ect and have experience and will install w.e is best for the tranny, but how hard are these to install?

  • Bleeding coolant system on Dodge?

I recently changed the thermostat on my 04 Durango 4.7L. I have never bled a coolant system before. I know I got to get the air out, I've done brakes before, ect. My question is, do I start to bleed it with the engine off and the bleeder out and then just wait untill coolant comes out? People say to do it while its running but wont the pressure squirt it out? Just wondering on the exact procedure so I do it right and don't get burned lol. Hopefully I didn't sound too stupid, any help appreciated.

  • What's better, "New" NASCAR or "Old" NASCAR?

I don't really want to start a debate here just curious on how most race fans feel. Do you like the grassroots, southern style, fist fighting, not afraid to get dirty old days, or the "New" NASCAR with drivers maintaining a perfect look, keeping good reputation for sponsors, and more money in the sport, international expansion, etc? I don't mean which racing was better, but do you like that NASCAR is trying to expand for more money of course, or the grassroots "style" of it......

I think after Dale passed the sport has went downhill as far as corporate NASCAR goes. I still like the racing though!

  • Durango overheats and stalls out?

I have a 2004 Dodge Durango 4.7L with 35,000 miles and only replacement part on it is a new thermostat (last summer due to overheating, but no stalling).

So I was driving for about 10 minutes and the temp went a little above whats normal (no a/c on) and the engine sputtered when getting on the gas and then stalled out in traffic. I barely made it home with it sputtering. I let it sit for a hour, checked coolant, oil, connection to everything, etc, nothing found. Started it up and it ran fine untill it went above normal temp, so its only when it gets hot. The fans are spinning but maybe the clutch fan is unefficient? The check engine light is also on. Could it be a fuel filter causing it to run lean and hot, or maybe an EGR valve...but why only when its hot? Any help appreciated!

I have an 87 1/2 ton longbed pickup w/ 350. Im putting in a 454 with a turbo 400. Its got 37 in tires a and 6 inch lift. I want to swap out the 1/2 ton axles with all the power and tires on the truck. I dont know too much about mudding and the common axles used. Ive been googling and found maybe 14 bolts and Danas would be a good choice. But not sure about what to watch out for when buying used axles and the maintnance/check up on them, ect. Any help and direction in what to do would be helpful, thanks.
