when we lived in an apartment I found a cat that was an outside cat but I believe it belonged somebody because it had a red collar but it showed up to our building everyday. Our side was on a hill (so it looked like 2 story building) Downstairs had 1 of those barbie houses for little kids to fit in with like old couch pillows that everyday when I got out of school I would go get the cat out of the Barbie house & bring her inside. Soon I started putting a rock in our building door for the cat to come upstairs to wait. She used to leap from the balcony when she was ready to go I had her for like 4mths so one day she did that & never came back... Im hoping that her real family found her a good home or probly moved away. I ended up buying stuff for her then after she was lost my older cousin bf's cat ended up having kittens & 1 came out mostly black tortie just like the cat I found & My aunt let me have 1 & I named her Chili.

I have had so many cats and so many lost cat stories.(:
Sassy (My first cat)
When I was six I got my first cat. When she was a year old she got out of the house when my dad was going to work in the morning. It was snowing and very cold outside. I remember crying over and over, my mom told me that she was alright and would be back soon. She didn't come back. We were slowly losing faith, I thought that I had lost my cat forever. That is until one morning, my dad was going to work and there sitting on the front porch was Sassy, my cat. My dad yelled "Sassy's home!" really loud, I head him all the way in my room and came running out. I was so happy that my cat was back. A few days later we noticed that she was changing, she was getting bigger and bigger. I though that she was sick because her abdomen felt harder. We soon found out that on her little trip she had gotten pregnant. She had two kittens, fluffy and kitty. Sassy just died from a seizure a few weeks ago. Fluffy died from leukemia and Kitty still lives with us today.
Princess Albert
I know a weird name for a boy kitty(: He was the sweetest kitty ever to be. He was a tuxedo cat mixed with a Himalayan, I think. But anyways, my mom brought him for me from a friend at work who simply did not want a cat anymore. I named him Princess Albert for some odd reason. We had him for a few years until he got out one day and simply did not return, ever. We never did find Princess Albert ever again but I sure did miss him throughout all those years. He really was a great cat. I remember go to humane societies just about every Friday looking for him, but we never did. All I wish is that he was "adopted" by a good family who loved him every day. I hope that he lived a long and happy life.
I have had a lot of cats in my lifetime, fluffy and her kittens all died from Leukemia): But We still do have three full grown cats today that are very happy where they are. Rajah learned to climb the ladder on my bunk bed(: Anyways, your cat may return. Lost cat stories can go good or bad. They may return or not, if not all you can do is wish that they were adopted by a good family. Do not wonder "what if..." It will only get yourself worried. Just look on the bright side and whatever happens happens for a reason.

Been there, done that.
Cats are sneaky that way. All of my cats who snuck out the door, came back in three days or less.
Hopefully she's had her shots and has a collar on with your info on it. If not, you might look into the "pet chip", just in case she does it again.
To avoid this in the future, you might want to get a harness and leash and take her outside for a while everyday, or when you can.

I'm sorry but it all depends. The best thing you can do is report the lost pet, put up posters, and of course go out looking for your cat as much as possible. Take food you know she likes so hopefully if she's nearby she will smell it, and just call her name. You might look abit silly but that might be exactly what gets your cat back.
If you really want a story though, I have a happy one. When I was little my family was moving out of the country and we were planning on giving our cats away to people because it was so much cost and effort to transport pets internationally. One cat, Muggle (not named from Harry Potter but funny coincidence), escaped from the house he was meant to live at. He was so smart he knew the direction to go in to get home. He walked for days, getting terribly lost, and unfortunately refusing to accept food or shelter from helpful people who tried to take him in. We put up posters everywhere because he was such a special cat and we regretted trying to give him away. Anyway, I think he was missing for a week or something until we got a call from a lady who said she had him with her. We drove to her house where she was standing outside holding him. It was the most incredible thing to see him there, he instantly recognised us and our car and jumped out of the lady's arms and ran over. I still get emotional when I think about it... but it was a happy ending and we ended up keeping Muggle until he was old and frail :) He was the best cat ever and I miss him so much but I'm glad he escaped that house, otherwise we wouldn't have had the joy of his company for a good 10 years or so!

Since you asked for both good and bad...
My spayed female disappeared a month ago and I haven't seen her since. I've checked the shelter, put up fliers, checked adoption sites, etc. with no luck.
My parents have a non-spayed female that will just randomly disappear for a week or more then just come back home one day.
My tom disappeared sometime after noon on Monday and I searched all over the neighborhood for him on foot and in my car, calling his name. He suddenly showed up on Tuesday around 5am. He'd just been in hiding because a lawnmower scared him. He had airplane ears for several hours and while outside kept looking around nervously for awhile, but I told him the lawnmower monster ate all the grass and went bye-bye. (For my cats, I refer to anything that's big and noisy as a monster - car monster, vacuum cleaner monster, yada yada.) After I said that a couple of times he seemed to understand and stopped looking around nervously.

My Flame Point Siamese disappeared for 3 weeks and someone found him and took him to the pound, they promptly called me and I went and got him. He wandered too far from home and got lost and lost his tags in the process! I was never so glad to see one of my cats in my life! He also got shut in the coat closet for 2 days, never making a sound, and I thought he was gone, but that morning I dreamed he was in there, went and opened the door and there he was!
