Tea. Is it that mentally addictive ?

Hi,

Seems to me that many peoples attitude to drinking tea is identical to a atrong addiction.

How often do you hear "gasping for a cuppa" and the resulting long "ahhhhh" on the first sip ?

This is not normal behaviour

I can take or leave it, and fair play to those that have a bit of what they fancy, but what is it with non-physically addictive leaves in water ?

The caffeine, the taste, the caffeine, the ritual, the warmth, the caffeine...

All I know is that when I had to cut out almost all tea because it had a bad interaction with a medicine I was taking (that I have since stopped due to other intolerable side effects), I had a craving for a week that turned into reading piles of tea books.

I drink caffeine free tea and still have to have a cup before I go to bed. Like any routine you become used too its hard to just stop - I guess this could be classed as an addiction.

It is a habit more than an addiction. Some people are the same with decaffeinated so it can't always be about the caffeine.

    Gone off tea myself.

It is caffeinated. Caffeine IS addictive. People act the same about a cup of coffee, same same.

It has caffeine in it which increases the heart rate making addictive.

it has to be the caffeine, people get addicted to it. they can't stop because it makes something in their body like it a lot and your body relies on it.
