New Homeowner's Tax Credit?

9/25/09 - submitted the info that the IRS requires for the tax credit

10/3/09 - Info received by the IRS

11/30/09 - IRS requested more info

12/3/09 - New info received

12/29/09 - IRS letter stating I should receive an update by 2-15-10

1/29/10 - Received letter from IRS stating that they have approved the tax credit

The letter also said that it would be processed in another 6-8 weeks!!!!!! Really another 6-8 weeks. I'm just shocked. This is going to be way longer than the 12-16 weeks they said it would take.

So my questions are:

Does anyone know if it's really going to take another 6-8 weeks after receiving the approval letter from the IRS. Also, I know interest accrues on this, does anyone know the interest rate?

Thanks,

Update:

Yes it accrues interest. It says right on the letter I received.

Update 2:

If the IRS had requested the info it wanted when I originally sent it in I would have done it. The IRS website says nothing about asking for the HUD docs, auto registration docs, mortgage statement, copy of drivers license. All that was requested when I sent it in was the a 1040x refile document and a homeowners tax credit doc.

Update 3:

I disagree tax lady. I know someone who filled a month before me and received her tax credit WITH interest in less than 5 weeks. I saw the check.

Let's see, over 1,000,000 amended returns for this credit alone.

    100% verification due to fraud.

8-12 weeks slowed to 16-20 weeks.

6-8 weeks is a hedged statement. It's 3 weeks after the $ amount is entered into the computer. The irs will include TAXABLE interest due to the delays, but the first 45-90 days won't count.

I am getting ready to file our paperwork, next week, and have been reading articles on this...

I'm surprised yours will take that long too as they (IRS) said in the article that beginning in Feb. they get very busy and back logged due to the season deadline to file for everyone,so it will delay the credit by 12-16 weeks....since you did your filing so early I wouldn't think it would take as long as mine....hmmm....maybe call the IRS or H & R Block to ask your questions to get definite answers...>=)

Sorry no clue on the interest rate.

With the amount of fraud with this plan running at almost 75% the honest taxpayer is being punished because of the crooks Other posters have stated it is now taking more then 6 months

No interest since this is a credit

if you had sent in the proper documents all at one time it would have been 6-8 weeks in process. Now it is in a stack for a field officer to work
