It depends upon a number of things. An interior near the middle of the ship can be a better cruise than a window on a lower level if it is at the end of the ship. The ends are the main thing to avoid as the sense of motion and noise are the greatest on the ends. Some people wouldn't consider sailing without booking a balcony, others are happy with an ocean view window, and still others always book inside cabins. The inside and outer cabins are very much the same so it just depends on your personal preference. Window or no window. Most cruisers are in the cabin only to sleep and shower and could care less about a window. I personally like the inside because it stays dark and if I stay up late, I don't have to worry about waking up at sunrise which is always the case when I stay in an outer cabin.

Yes indeed, an oceanview is better then an inside cabin on any deck. Picking a cabin is a personal choice. Having a balcony or oceanview cabin makes the cruising experience better and more enjoyable, No question about it. It also comes at a higher price. Think about it, how long do you stay in your cabin? You can save some money and have a wonderful time with an inside cabin. One thing, they are kinda dark, cave-like and smaller in size then a balcony cabin.

My advice is to get the best cabin you can afford. If this is your first cruise, you may want to spend a little more for the window view. Sometimes you can get reasonable priced oceanview rooms. Check out this cruise travel site. The prices are very good. http://vacationstogo.com/index.cfm

    Hope I helped!

Personally i do not suggest ocean view rooms. I have cruised 4 times, and will never book an ocean view room. I book INSIDE rooms for the price. If i can afford a bit extra then i go for the Balcony room. I just dont see spending the extra on an Ocean View room with just a window. It's like u are tempted, you get to seee whats out side.. but really, how long are you going to stand at the window and look out? , you can walk right up to the top deck and enjoy it in the fresh air with a better view. I just think the window rooms are a waste of money, when i talk to someone who is booking a cruise for the first time, i tell them NOT to book the Window room, either inside or balcony. Inside rooms are a great value and they make for some good naps during the day. it gets nice and dark and cool in there! :D so NO, i say do not book a Window room!

    I'm with sally b.

An inside cabin is more than plenty considering you should only be there to sleep, shower and change clothes.

I would never suggest an oceanview, from what I have seen looking over deck plans of cruise ships, these typically are at the bottom level of the ship.

A balcony room I think is fine if say the majority of the cruise you'll be at sea, or specific cruises, like an Alaska cruise.

If I had a choice of a cabin on one of the upper decks or near the bottom, I'd chose the top.

  • YES! A cabin with a window or balcony is always better than an inside cabin. You get to see what's happening and you don't feel like you are sleeping in a closet. Cabins on the lower levels are also subject to less motion although the ships being used these days do not have much motion anyway. And then on the other hand, there will be few if any inside cabins on the upper decks. They are mostly located on the lower decks, with a few exceptions.

My suggestion to you is to get a balcony cabin if you can afford it. The balcony will greatly enhance your cruise experience. If you can't afford, or don't want to spend the money for a balcony, then for sure get the outside cabin. I have cruised about 25 times on various cruise lines and have had inside, outside and balcony cabin. My experience is the balcony is best and I will not cruise unless the ship has balcony cabins available. Now days you can get a balcony cabin for what an inside cabin used to cost. If you see balcony cabins listed for about $1,000 or less then that's a bargain. Some other tips, book early, like about a year in advance to get the best price and also look for the cruise line specials and cruise on the dates when the prices are lowest.

Absolutely! I would go nuts if there were no window, no view of the outside. We were in a room with a window that didn't open and had a lifeboat covering most of the window. I really bad wanted some air.
