False premise. The two are not mutually exlusive. I'm pretty sure that the majority of people accept the fossil record and scientific theory that supports evolution, yet still think God was the instigator of the process, thus the Creator.
ETA: Jeez, according to that Gallup poll, I am wrong. Creationists outnumber the commonsensical, middle-of-the-road approach by EIGHT points! That's shocking to me! Nearly half the American population really believes that humanity is less than 10,000 years old?!

Why?
Evolution is demonstrably true either way, whereas there's still no good reason to believe in a god.
