Mommies, Did you see this article that found the cause of SIDS?

Not a question really, just saw this as a new headline on my main Yahoo page, and wasn't sure if you all saw it too. They say they found the cause of SIDS and are hoping to beable to develope a test to be able to tell which babies are at high risk.

Interesting article. Thanks for sharing. I won't be putting it into my arsenal of hard facts until more studies and research have been done, but I did appreciate the read.

it's not new - alternative "flakey" health care providers have been saying this for years but it takes decades for mainstream medicine to catch up.

it's not a cause, either - just a characteristic that seems to be common to babies who died of true SIDS (as opposed to those who die of other causes that are attributed to SIDS, such as smothering in soft bedding or dying of positional asphyxia - being left too long in the car seat with their head all flopped forward).

Long Q-T Syndrome is also found in many babies who die of no apparent cause - it can cause death at any age, including adult, but again, mainstream medicine doesn't like to think there could actually be anything in it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_QT_syndrome

seems LQT is a lot more common than has been admitted and the test for it can be done at birth and is very cheap but nobody wants to deal with it. my ex always complained he was having a heart attack and he's had several episodes throughout his life where he suddenly dropped and had to have his heart restarted. he was at my mother's cottage when it happened again and the local hospital - back then, it was just a wee little Red Cross emergency station - put him on a monitor and instantly found it.

They "may" have found a link. It is a theory. It isn't a new one either. The serotonin-SIDS link has been theorized for a while.

The article uses the word 'may' a lot. They havne't found a definite cause -- just a 'clue' to something that *may* be a factor.

It *MAY* be the cause. They've been doing studies like this for years and have always found what *may* be the cause.

I did not realise that literacy struggles lay behind the 'Scroo the experts! I know what best for my babby and he wanted rice at two weeks' advice you offer on here. I am very sorry.
