Internet Help! If I dont type in "www" in the navigation bar it takes me to a ask.com search engine!?

Its really annoying and I dont know how to change this. If I dont specifically type in "www" I am immediately redirected to an ask.com search engine. I unistalled the ask.com toolbar from my browser and reinstalled the google toolbar, but it still does it.

Any clues on how to fix it??

Btw the browser I am using is Internet Explorer.

Update:

This is a new problem that started happening a couple weeks ago. Previously if I typed "yahoo.com" it just automatically directed me to "www.yahoo.com" ... I redownloaded IE 8, but it still redirecting me to ask.com

You have spyware. Run a scan with your anti-spyware program to remove it. If you don't have any, here's trusted, free anti-spyware programs (use at least two):

    ♠ Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_pe...

    ♠ Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index....

♠ Windows Defender http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/s... ◄─ if you have Vista or Windows 7, you already have this one

    ♠ SuperAntiSpyware http://www.superantispyware.com/

    ♠ Malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/index.php

Always update before running a scan.

Go to your control panel icon. Click on Internet Options. There you can delete you total history. The addys won't show on your address bar. It SOUNDS like you have too much tied up in your temporary files.Stay in Internet Options. Click "Delete Files" and "Delete Cookies" After that go to your Accessories and go to System Tools, then Maintenance Wizard. This will clear up your disc drives and do a defrag. Your PC should get REAL peppy after this

Yeppers I can help you once your on the page that you want your browser to open to go to your control panel on the start menu and look for an icon that has internet properties under it. Click and then it will open a box that has all the properties on the first page at the top is Home page and big box. In that box is a web address you can enter the page you would like your browser to open to there and and select use current page that will change it to open to your favorite page. If the page gets changed again with out you change it you may have browser hijacker virus. www.spybot.com and download it. It will remove it and block it from coming back and best of all it's free.
