How Do You Pronounce These Irish Names?
Basically, I'm writing a story (or in the planning stages of it) and, due to when it's set, I need some very Celtic/Gaelic names. I've already got a list of names (from English, Welsh and Scottish names) but some of the Irish names I'm finding really hard to pronounce (as well as find the pronunciations of the names that I don't know how to pronounce). Anywho, I would be very greatful if you could tell me the pronuciations of the names below, as it would be a real help. Here are the names:
Aibhne
Aoibheann
Aoife
Caoimhe
Clidhna
Clodagh
Dympna
Eadoin
Eithne
Meabh
Naomh
Niamh
Roisin
Saoirse
Siobhan
Siofra
Uaine
Thanks,
Victoria
PS: If you only know a few of them, then that's okay too. Every little helps :)

Source(s): I am Irish and know lots of people with some of these names. There are a couple of unusual ones which I had to guess the pronunciation but being able to speak Gaelic I think I am right. There are lots of other strange Irish names out there (some pretty and some ridiculous) and patriotic Irish people are always trying to find more and more unique ones. Lots have meanings eg. Roisin = little rose, Saoirse = freedom. - ★ Mεgαη Јαηαўα ★Lv 71 decade ago

Aoibheann has more recently been shortened to Aven (ay-vin) because it sounds like this when people with Irish accents say it.
