Do I get it at a store or order on line ? How do I know how much I need ? I keep getting messages saying not enough memory to run this program or the pictures won't show ! Help !

You can see if your computer can handle more RAM by going to Crucial.com and running a scan.
http://www.crucial.com/index.asp
There is no obligation to buy from Crucial but at least the scan will tell you how much RAM your computer can handle, the type of RAM you need, and provide you with a price estimate.

Take note of the RAM type, speed and channel setup.
I'm not usually one to shop by brand name, but IMO Corsair is the best.
