Can I make my own sling/wrap?

Okay I had posted a question yesterday saying i have back problems and my back is starting to really hurt. My son always wants to be carried, I don't mind at all but my back is killing me.

I want the Moby wrap but ehh i don't want to spend 35$ on it. Can I make my own wrap? I could just buy the fabric right?

Or should I just get the moby wrap? I've heard so many good things of it.

I made my moby for about 18$(Canadian) A moby here runs from 45-60$(CND)...No way i was spending that. I went to the fabric store and bought about 7 yards of fabric, a cotton jersey is what its made of and if you should use that it requires no sewing. I used 100% cotton cause i didnt want stretch as they got bigger and it works fine but i had to sew it on the ends and around the edges. Its very very simple...Just get your fabric and then go here to see how to wrap it...Wrap it around you comfortably and then cut the ends to size and Voila homemade moby :D. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O78_qhy2eQ0

If your really adventurous and would like something that will last a bit longer you could try making a Mei Tai...Which is pretty much a Moby with straps and not a ton of fabric..... http://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/Baby/asian.html Im in the process of making one of these for the new baby as they are supposed to be really good carriers.

    Good Luck!!

Yes, you can get a length of material and use it as a moby wrap. No reason to pay $35 for it. Make sure you use the right kind of material. The best way to make sure you're happy with it is to take your kiddo to the store with you and try on the Moby with them in it. That way you know what you think about the wrap and have 1st person knowledge about how the fabric feels and looks to duplicate it yourself.

I want to second the making your own mei tai idea though. They are much better carriers (in my opinion) because they are easier on your back/ distribute the weight better. They don't tend to sag as much with a larger child either. My son is about 18lbs now and I can wear my homemade mei tai for four hours at least with no ill effect. If I switch from back to front I can wear him for longer.

    Good Luck!

I very own a Kari Me wrap sling and additionally a purple tartan ring sling, uncertain of the kind yet became very kindly given to me via Katie ok off right here!! The Kari me is astonishing while they are youthful, if i could have prevalent approximately them ahead i does no longer have even stricken with finding out to purchase a pushchair interior the early months, I 'wore' him each and all the time in it, indoors and out, i won't be able to advise those sufficient! although the textile is very stretchy and he's a precise lump now (23lbs final month) so it fairly is only solid for short journeys. the ring sling seems so wonderful! i wouldn't in any respect dare use one for a newborn because it would not look as defend as a wrap sling, even though it fairly is super for an older toddler and seems SO cool with him sat on my hip in it! no longer solid for huge long days out because it hurts my shoulder after a on a similar time as yet magnificent for an hour or 2 at a time!

  • Of course. I did buy the Moby, but I searched a lot of other places for purchasing/ making before I did. I might try to make one, who knows. I definitely love it, though. It's way better than a Bjorn pack.
