What kind of Dwarf Hamster do I have?

I have an Albino dwarf hamster that is about 7 months old. At the pet store they called her an albino russian hamster so i always assumed she was a Campbells Russian. But lately I've heard about Winter White Russians. It is possible she could be one?? Is there a way to tell the difference. And are winter white russians only white? your help would be great thanx.

How long have you had the hamster? You'd be able to tell if it's a Winter White if you've noticed a lightening of the coat, but I'm going to guess you have had it for only a few months, not quite long enough to tell a difference. Winter White hamsters are called so because their coats change to a white color in winter, whereas the Campbells do not change into a yearly white coat.

What color are the hamster's eyes? Black or Red? If the hamster's eyes are black then chances are it's a Winter White.

And for your last question, no, they come in several coat colors. There is the pearl white coat which your hamster may be showing now, an agouti coat (dark brown-gray), and a sapphire coat (bluish-gray).

Another interesting thing to note is that of the hamster species usually kept as pets the Winter White and Campbells hamsters are the only ones that can interbreed and birth live offspring. This isn't recommended though because it can cause health and birthing problems for future generations.

So a long way I've been blissful with all of the Robo dwarfies that I've had (3). They're now not very interactive however excellent a laugh to observe (until you get them used to humans, then it is less difficult to maintain them, feed them through hand and so on.) The first answerer is unsuitable until Russians have highly touchy ft. I might advocate Super Shavin's in view that my hamsters regularly attempt to consume the cotton-variety stuff (plus the wooden smells greater ;D) As in your water bottle predicament I might get a steady blue Super Pet one that is not too bit in order that it's going to contact the bedding or too small so your hamster are not able to get it. Good good fortune!
