Is it possible that people can only follow people since they are afraid to be individual?

It seems throughout all of history, many people feel they have to be under the footsteps of another person. Whenever the person is a king, a celebrity or a government, it seems some people can`t ever be individuals. Do any of you agree or think this is a bias accusation.

Yes, I'm glad someone else noticed people's observed tendency to follow others. I don't know whether it is intrinsic in human nature, but it definitely is a major part of every culture I can think of.

I think it begins with the idea of role modeling. Copying other people IS intrinsic to human nature and it is the way people learn. However, having a so-called "life" is part of culture which makes humans unique. This "life" of which everyone speaks isn't directly biological, but people seem to come to the conclusion that it must be learned just like everything else. This is how we come back to how humans learn, through copying.

This idea of copying brings us back to role modeling. Since life is built with a great number of components it becomes simplified by putting these diverse components into a single package. This package is known as a "role model". Role models represent the goal pepole try to attain. Humans are aware that this goal takes time to achieve and even with effort may not be possible. HOWEVER, because the "role model" is in fact a human, the goal they seek is confirmed as "POSSIBLE" maybe not plausible but worthy.

Based on certain definitions of happiness it is difficult to disprove that this is mankinds goal. "Role models" represent absolute happiness. Let's show an example:

---> Billy wants to be become a police officer. He watches TV and sees police officers "having fun", "receiving praise", and downloads this as a "role model". Everything that comes with being a TV police officer is now Billy's role model and goal in life. Billy goes on to become a police officer struggling to reach his ideal. However, it is the ideal that gives Billy the strength to go on and seek his happiness there.

Now who is Billy? Billy is a police officer. A police officer is a member of the police department which is an organization. Even if Billy's goal role model was Robocop it would be impossible to become Robocop. The best Billy ever had hope for would be a Robocop knockoff. By selecting a role model Billy doomed himself to become "another" police officer. An individual no doubt, but not to the eyes of history, others or even those around him.

When people make other people their goals they lose themselves. The world has a limit of one person per individual. However, this role modeling has kept people's ideals and beliefs closer together. Some also attribute role modeling to inspiration, "if it wasn't for [blank] I wouldn't have the courage to [blank]".

This has been a long answer to your question. People who are afraid to be individuals can only follow people. Yes, others can view a follower as an individual and pioneer. However, it doesn't make the person any less of a people follower.

Would music make so much money without people followers? Would Hollywood be Hollywood without people followers? Would people wear Jerseys without people followers? Would there have ever been a king without the people followers?

Without people followers what is a celebrity?

    PERSONAL THOUGHTS:

Okay, I am not an objectivist. I am against hero worship and dislike it VERY much. I think most people are mindless followers, but I don't have any true disdain for them. Just for the belligerent ones. HOWEVER, every person is a seperate individual whether he acts like it or not. All people don't follow anything in particular. Groups are just concepts really, but it's followers who make them real.

Some stuff we know but just shouldn't talk about because once it's said it seems awkward. Like that?
