Are there new religions being made or are they fake and demeaning?

You can't possibly know that, but here's a way to answer your own question.

First you have to take one of two approaches:

Approach A) All religion is false

Approach B) All religion is false but one

Obviously, all religions can't be right because ALMOST all of them contradict each other. This means that the only religions will only be able to catch on to people who aren't religious or gave up his/her religion for another.

Why would a non-religious person take up a religion and why would a religious person switch?!

The answer is a religious experience. If a person undergoes an experience that leads them to believe something is true they become "Religious". At this point they must tell others about their revelation. It is the effectiveness of their account to convert coupled with open-mindedness that gives way to new religion.

Now how likely is that to happen? Ask yourself if you know anyone who would believe someone who claims to have a new religion. My guess is if you know anyone, that number is quite small. That may be from modern perspective of religion.

So basically this seems to say that there will not be new religions that will be taken seriously. Kind of like Raelians aren't taken seriously.

HOWEVER, there is another way religions can be started. Outside of the classic prophet scenario, there is the true prophet scenario. In this case a religion can be started, but be prepared to stretch your own belief.

If a man appears announcing a new religion and does miraculous things in a city in the US. And 67% of the city claims that these things happened then you have a New Religion on your hands. It is guaranteed that many people will adopt these claims and a new religion will start.

What's the probability of that happening? The answer is nobody can, does, or will ever know. However, based on the average atheist and Christian it is zero.

-People are not done with religion, but society is done with taking cult religions seriously. When religion becomes a cult society deems it false.

Remember to the true believer THE religion is much more than religion.

Depends on where you are. You could bring in a "new" religion in an area where superstition is the norm, and the mystical accepted-- and might turn it into a prosperous religion. In areas where religion is waning, like Europe and the US, a new religion will be met with opposition by the "standard" religions as bogus, (much like many of the christian religions attack the mormons) and many people view religion overall as a dying thing that is slowly ebbing away so any new one will be discounted as another "hoax"

Most people have not studied the word of God....until you study it you will not know what the real truth is. I have been on this site for many months and I have not read 1 person write what I have found from years of studying the bible, I found 2 that say only 2 say what I know is the whole truth but writing it I have found none. Ok the real truth or the real gospel is we dont have to die.....correct leave this earth. We were meant to stay here, there is a reason why we get sick age and die, its called not knowing the real way or basically sin. And Jesus came with the answer, receive the Holy Spirit and now be holy and be perfect as my Father in heaven is perfect. Thats the real gospel.

When Christianity came about all of the Christians were ridiculed for having a false religion because it wasn't as old as Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, or roman/greek polytheism.

They were pressured to convert once they grew in number and horrible stuff happened if they didn't (fed to lions and stuff D:)

All it took was the holy roman emperor Constantine to pray to Jesus and then emerge victorious in a war, and Christianity was protected spread everywhere.

Now virtually everyone in the western hemisphere is christian or catholic.

The only "monarchs" who force tolerance of a belief are communist rulers who force atheism, like in china lol so probably something new like Mormonism or Scientology won't spread to far.

I made one up, Sexitaria, it's basically the idea of unitarian but dedicated to sex, just wait and see, it'll be the major religion in 2000 years.

The majority is the latter, though there are some of the former.
