What would happen to English soccer if USA defeated England in the WC?
I know that its unlikely to happen but it is not impossible. Remember 1950.
Soccer no longer be popular in England and rugby would become the biggest sport in the UK. I think that is what would happen. English people would hate soccer if USA defeated them in the world cup thats what i think.
@stn i do think England will win by a lop sided margin. I think they England will win 5-0 or 6-0 or maybe 6-1.

If the USA beat England, than English football will only get stronger. It will send shockwaves throughout the FA and they'll do all they can to regain England's national honour.
England's biggest rival is Germany. If there is one team they hate losing to, it's them.
At Euro 96 hosted by England, Germany beat England in the semi-final on penalties in front of all the English fans. Germany would then go on to win Euro 96 on English soil. That hurt England. A lot.
Five years later in 2001 with a new squad, England beat Germany 5-1 in Munich.
The fact is, if a great team suffers a painful or embarrassing loss it only serves to strengthen their determination to make amends.

Well lucky for me, I'm not English. Also, mate, the Olympics is an amateur competition. Rugby World Cup - 3rd largest international sporting tournament in the world behind FIFA World Cup and Summer Olympics

You really should be careful of what you smoke. The Brits are not going to pull another America's Cup just to keep the Yanks satisfied as they did at Cowes. Once the USA can field a team of born in the USA players that can consistently beat every team in the Americas and also take on the Europeans, your question has a chance of happening. Until you can say football and mean the no hands game I don't think that will happen.

I will obviously respect them more, because I don't expect them to do it. The U.S are a solid, honest team that play for each other, but I can't understand these teams like USA and Mexico getting into FIFA's top 5 despite never making it to the later stages of tournaments.

Prepare to go through a painful period. And that from a country where soccer is still a minor sport. As for Rugby, check out who won the last time it was in the Olympics. Funny how they dropped it after that.

No, even if USA win against England, England can still make it out of the group stages by beating Slovenia and Algeria. You don't even know what you're talking about...so please stop embarrasing yourself :)
USA lost to Canada, South Korea, and Mexico in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. They also lost to Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and Japan in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. Does baseball suddely become unpopular in America? No.

not likely anything would change, remember England didnt even qualify to last years world cup, so a defeat to USA wouldnt be that bad, plus England is extremely overrated.

I expect they would still be available to play the remaining games as scheduled.
