It depends. Resistance is a simple number. Impedance is a complex number, representing an amplitude of a variable and its phase relationship to a sinusoid of a specific frequency.

Equivalent Series Resistance could be a value that would give the variable the same magnitude as its actual impedance, at a specific frequency. It might also be the value of resistance that would give the same power dissipation in the circuit as does the actual impedance. It might also be simply the resistive component of the impedance, whatever the frequency.
