Is this too much heat on my hair?

I'm a swimmer and now that my season is over I want to straighten my hair. I'm African- American and if you don't know, we tend to have very dry hair. I have an appointment on Tuesday for my hair dresser to do my hair. Would it be too much if I blow it out and straighten it myself today, and still went to my hairdresser. I haven't had any heat on my hair for about 3 months.

Well, if you MUST apply heat you should let your hair air dry, then straighten it on a lower setting; however, I wouldn't do do both. I think it's overkill to blow dry AND straighten.

Also, since you haven't have any heat on your hair for about 3 months, it shouldn't affect your hair too much but you don't want to pull any more moisture out than necessary.
