Car battery question?
1977 plymouth volare ran fine until a few days ago had to jump start it battery went dead. my question is when i replaced the battery cables sparked when i connected the battery is that normal
i connected the battery the right way

Were the doors open or the key on? If not, this is not normal - newer vehicles will spark somewhat due to the electronic memories and back up power supplies, but a 1977? No way should it have any current flowing with everything shut off.

You can get a slight spark if you connect the positive cable first. When the cable is just about a sixteenth of an inch from the battery a spark can jump the gap.

well...yes...usually.
Except I am not so sure in a '77
There has to be something running....newer cars it is the computer...etc.
Do you have a clock, radio on...
typically, it is something stupid shorted out...like the trunk light or an under hood light, the light in the glove box,coutesy lights.
If any of these are lefdt on it can drain a battry in a day or two.

It will if there's something on like the under hood light. If everything is turned off then no it shouldn't
