Let us answer them one by one...

1. Yes you can definitely create stills from your videos. And its very easy too.

2. There are free video editing softwares and even video players with screen capture facility which allow you to save frames u choose in image formats as jpeg. The best one i can suggest is Windows Movie Maker...it come free with windows XP and has the above feature to capture frames and save as images.

Download and play using VLC. This has screen capture options. Simple screen dumps don't tend to work due to the way the image is rendered.

VLC is straightforward.

There is also a very good way just use VLC media player and play your movie with VLC while watching movie go to 'Video' and click on snapshot and VLC will take snapshot and it will save in 'my picture' folder. you can also pause movie at still you want.

Use the "Prt Scr" key on your keyboard to take a snapshot of what ever is on the monitor. You can paste the image and crop it with any editing program. (Paint, Gimp, Photoshop)

how are you watching it? you could just pause whereever you want a picture and get a screenshot of your monitor.

for PC you hit control+printscreen and it copies your monitor to the clipboard. then you can just paste that in paint or something to cut out exactly what you want

a free program called CamStudio lets you take screen shots or take video of whats on your computer screen. you can adjust the size of whats being taken or recorded aswell.
