Why dont my .avi videos work correctly when to put to DVD?

Standard DVD players read the .Vob format, the files you have now are in AVI format..

One way to burn avi files that will play on a dvd player.But it must be able to handle divx.

Most players sold today like phillips and samsung players handle avi files.You just burn the file as data

on a regular cdr.
