What Does this Poem Mean????
Hey, I'm having trouble analyzing this poem for school because I don't understand it. Can someone read it and tell me what you think it means?

This poem is from Spoon River Anthology. The poems are inscriptions on tombstones in Spoon River (really Falls River) Massachusetts' cemetery. Editor Whedon admits on his tombstone that his 8-page newspaper was for profit, and he didn't care what he printed. He finds it ironic that a guy who published dirt on people lies in a grave near a sewer.

Poor Effie was completely unable to think for herself in life.( Her brain was made of gingerbread) Even when she lay dead and God asked where she was, it was the first of six crumbs who answered.: may, followed by might, should, could, would,Must is the sixth crumb. Not completely sure of the ending though. I think she was having difficulty still knowing what to do to cross the threshold. Strange poem. Not one my favourites.
