How will I do for the running in basic training? So far I can run 2 miles in 25 minutes. :(?

Hey everyone. So I leave for basic in 1 month. I've really got into much better shape than I was, but that doesn't mean I'm in good shape yet. I can only run 2 miles in 25 minutes at the moment. As for push ups. I'm up to 20. Before I could barely do 1. Will I be okay going into basic? I'm starting to get nervous as it comes up. I'm hoping I can maybe hit the 15 minute mark for 2 miles, within a month's time... But if I were to go in being able to run 2 miles in 25 minutes, would I be okay starting out in BCT? Btw I'm in the army if that helps, thanks!

Update:

Yeah, I was hoping I'd at least have a few others who aren't in shape like I am going to BCT. I really don't want to be that ONE who is failing at everything. :(

Update 2:

I guess this is what I get for playing video games all the time, lol. I'm not fat or anything. Just out of shape. I'll just really push myself harder though.

25 minutes for two miles is not good at all to be blunt. If you are practicing for running 2 miles, you need to be running three. One month is a good amount of time to trim your run time down. A big part of running is a mental block. Run 3 miles a day 4 - 5 times a week, and strive to improve your time with each day even if just a few seconds a day. Your time will come down.

1 mile every day is definately NOT too much. It's not enough. What you need to do is start practicing running by doing 2-3 miles three times a week. Try to complete a 2 mile run on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Then, start trying for three miles. When that gets easy, get up to four miles. The trick is to make the time last over 20 minutes and to do it 3 or 4 times per week. You'll get into shape in no time. Good lucK!

That is 12.5 minute miles. Or just under 5 mph. Hate to be a spoil sport but that is just a fast walking speed. By the time you are done with basic you are going to be doing 8 minute miles or faster. Do not worry about it, they start you off slow and increase the rate as you move through basic. They have the system of turning couch potatoes into soldiers down to a science. You do not have to be in really great shape before you get there.

If you are age 17-21, then, in order to score the minimum of 60%, you need to run in 15:54 or less. You should run 3 miles every other day, and in between those 3 mile days, you need to incorporate sprinting. This will help with you heart rate and breathing. You can even run 3 miles with sprinting mixed into it. Good luck, and don't give up.

basic will be tough for you, but don't worry, you'll do fine. there are going to be people there who haven't done a pushup in their lives or haven't run more then from their car to the front door when it's raining. so don't worry, at least you are working on it.

i'm not gonna lie, you will be pushed really hard, because you've got a long way to go, but you can do it. it's no big deal. a few months of hard work to payoff with pride and accomplishment in the end.

    good luck!

I just enlisted in the National Guard and running is a bit of a problem for me. Just keeping running and be consistent. Run everyday make goals for yourself and your run time will get better. I run everyday and my time is slowly getting better. My current time is 9:15 a mile from 11:00 when I first started. Keep trying and you will get there!

Here are the minimum requirements to graduate from BCT. Run every other day and do the sit ups, push ups and pull ups on alternate days. There are also some tips around there on how to improve your times, but you're way behind.

Basic will suck for you, but they will get you there so dint worry. If you are 18-23 i believe is the first section. You have to run 2 miles in 15:54, that is the minimum to graduate (Army). Don't worry, just push yourself during basic...you will get there.

  • Ugh...you're nowhere near the shape you need to be in and at least you know that. You're showing signs of improvement. Keep working at it.
