Washington Ovechkins?
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm sick of Ovechkin making all the NHL headlines.
I have nothing in particular against the guy himself. Ya, he's a little arrogant and cocky, but he is clearly one of the best hockey players in the league. That said, he doesn't deserve AS MUCH attention as he gets.
Last night's game against the Habs was obvious proof that he holds some kind of strange Russian mind hold on the media. Of the 5 "Plays of the Night" featured on NHL.com, he got TWO of them, and both were for the SAME PLAY that neither ended in a goal, or was even an incredible play. All he did was crash the net and the puck slid in during the confusion, and somehow he gets a video replay of the no goal, AND a video replay of the call being made on the no goal. It wasn't even a good play, and he only managed one assist in the entire game. Meanwhile, Books Laich managed a HAT TRICK, and he gets no love. There were 11 goals scored in that game and Ovie got NONE of them, and yet he still tops the headlines as if it were all his doing.
Again, I have nothing against Ovechkin other than the fact that he gets WAY to much media attention. I don't care how good he is. If he isn't the star of the show on a particular night, then let someone else have the glory. Tom Pyatt made his first career goal, and Maxime Lapierre managed an awesome goal after a long drought that he essentially turned over, set up and assisted himself. Give someone else a turn.
Is NO ONE sick of hearing about Oveckin day after day, even when he under-performs?!?
@Jay: I completely agree with you. The Caps are arguably the best team in the league right now and their winning streak should be a big deal. The team itself did deserve the attention. The problem is that there were 21 other players on the ice making that streak happen, and they were all overlooked as if Ovechkin was the only one carrying the load.

Seems like whenever hockey gets covered in the American media, it's always about Ovechkin or Crosby. That's the way it will be. They're the face of the sport and have brought some much-needed attention to hockey after the lockout. Yes, some of you may get sick of it, but I'm tired of football, basketball, and baseball only getting all the headlines in the American media.

If you don't like reading about Ovi, then don't read articles with his name in the headlines. Had we won, Brooksie likely would have gotten all the attention, but the loss meant the Caps media focused on the streak being over and the Ovi goal/non-goal, so those are the bigger issues tonight.
I don't think I'll ever be sick of it. Before Ovi, the media, both local and international, payed little, if any attention to the Caps beyond the results of the games. I enjoy seeing my team get some attention finally.

I agree with let's go caps. It's much needed attention to the sport. I've gotten use to all the attention towards the 2 players (i'm sure you know who I'm talking about) and I've steered away from those articles. I'm adult enough to make my own conclusions on how great, cheap, worthless etc players can be.

I see where youre coming from, but you have to give it to the Caps. For all those years they struggled, look where Alexander Ovechkin got them. What do you think the team would be like without him? im sure your immediate answer would be less press, and maybe youre right. But he and Crosby get alot of attention, and media coverage becuase of their skills, and ability to play hockey like no one else. But use the Hat Trick, which is very popular, and thats how they win. As far as ovechkin, this is his time now. But there will be another one that will come along in years to come, who will replace him.

He gets press. Same reason they talk about Vick all day. Ovechkin is a turd.
