Did it happen? I have no idea.

    Could it have? Absolutely.

Like others have said. SPL experts have no interest in music.

They choose the best frequency for the car, the best sub for that frequency and the best enclosure to play it loud.

Even a cheap sub can play extremely loud if it's set up right.

The one that always shocked me was a few years back -- I believe the guy's name was Nate Munson -- Took a 10" DD9510 and did just shy of 170dB w/5kw. I guess the old mic's read high, but it was easily 165db by today's mic.

possibly yeah. It all depends on what type of car it was in, the smaller the better. Also the type of box that was used. The box could be tuned to around 50 - 60 hz. It wouldn't sound very good, its only for getting loud for high scores. The amount of power is also a factor. With the correct box subs can take way more power than recommended but only around the tuning frequency and only for a short time before the coils burn out.

So to answer yes its possible, but only for a short time, and it couldnt be used every day for music

I have a single dual 2ohm (in parallel) T2-12 fed with a T1500-1bd, slot ported, tuned to 30hz in a Mustang, coupled with my highs producing 141db. It's clean, so I suspect it wouldn't be difficult to achieve. I also have a T2-12 co-operating with 2 10w7's in an F250 hitting +151db. Granted the 10w7's are work horses, and providing most of the share.

It all depends on what kind of vehicle it was in and how hard he was pushing that sub.
