My 5 1/2 mth old baby has never gotten sick?

Im just worried because of that saying (I dunno maybe its a fact) that getting sick helps build an immune system. So if my son never gets sick this winter, then what will happen if he gets sick next winter. Could a simple flu turn into something dramatically worse?

Even my MIL acts shocked that he hasnt gotten even a little something this winter.

-Sorry if I sound like an overly worried mother. =)

Actually they don't have to get sick to build up their immune system, they just need exposure to germs. This concern has mainly come up because so many people are into sterilizing everything and using antibacterial products for everything. So long as your baby is living normally and you're not following him around with the hand sanitizer and a bottle of bleach, he is getting exposed as he needs to be.

My son didn't get sick until right after his 1st birthday. He has been sick a few times since (he's 26 months) and each time he makes a quick recovery.

Dont worry, my son was barely ever sick until he entered daycare at 18 mos! He never had anything major, but he was sick constantly though! He had never been exposed to such amount of germs, so his first winter at day care he attended a handful of days, due to colds, fever, coughs, etc. But then his immune system built up and he's 5 and perfectly fine!

Your baby is very healthy and unless he's exposed to a lot of germs. Dont worry as he gets older he'll get more colds etc, not necessarily will they become something serious. A cold for a healthy child is just that, a cold.

Don't worry that is actually good. He has probably been exposed to things but fought it off before you could notice. My youngest hasn't been sick yet and she is 10 months old. And my oldest (she is 3) has only been sick a few times- the flu (which she had for 2 days when I was sick for two weeks) and a couple colds. While her cousin that is the same age is sick all the time. That child has never been completely healthy her entire life.

Nothing drastic is going to happen. Its just when he will be more exposed to viruses (if you send him to a daycare or eventually when he goes to school), he is gonna be sick more often the first winter. Everyone gets their immune system in gear sooner or later. Its actually good that your baby is healthy while he is little!! Think of it - right now, you can't give him any meds and his nose is so tiny, any cold will be hard to get over - when he is older, there is so much more that you can do to help.

My 6 month old hasn't either and I have kept him away from anyone sick. As long as you aren't using anything like antibacterial soaps with him, I think it's fine. It isn't normal to get sick even for adults. If they have a very strong immune system it can fight off infections before they get symptoms or only have very mild symptoms

My son didn't get his first sickness until almost 9 months. Since then he's only been REALLY sick(I don't consider the sniffles being sick) a handful of times and none were worse than the other, really. Your son is/will be fine.

hes beautiful! dont worry about it tho mommy. when your child is this young, you dont want him getting sick because his immune system is not fully developed yet. are you still breast feeding him? often times breast feeding helps strengthen the immune system because in your breastmilk, you are passing on disease fighting molecules, immunoglobullants. next winter if he does get sick, just keep a close eye on it. but im sure hell be fine.

i'm with you in this. I also have a sixteen month old and he or she is in basic terms initiating to sleep throughout the night. i comprehend the way difficult it fairly is to hearken to the screaming. Her docs say to allow her cry it out too, even yet it fairly is fairly difficult whilst she would manage to choose for 2 hours, we've pals upstairs and we the two arise early for paintings. i prefer to maintain an eye fixed in this question with the aid of fact i might like some ideas too. She nevertheless gets up as quickly as at night, yet this is all it takes for her to no longer pass returned to sleep! and that i attempted the controlled approach to. All they learn from this is you will finally pass returned in and that they win!

My son had his first cold when he was 19 months old. He had a tummy bug when he was 13 months. That is all he has had. Both illnesses lasted for 3 days each. He is healthy as a horse...your son is fine.

You are extremely lucky. What ever you are doing - you're doing it right.

My kids hardly ever got sick until they began school...then they bring everything home that other kids have.....so your day will come.

    Keep up the good work!!!
