Why do people call a wrestler overrated once he becomes a main eventer in WWE?

It's like this EVERY time. With ANY wrestler who becomes a main eventer in WWE, people start calling them overrated. I personally would have to disagree. People think guys like John Cena and Randy Orton are overrated, but it’s because they get more exposure than any other wrestler on any promotion. Since they are the top stars in the biggest wrestling company in the world, they’re obviously going to be talked about more. It’s not that they are overrated, they just get more exposure. People complain that everyone says Undertaker is so great while guys like Bryan Danielson are better. True, but out of Undertaker and Bryan Danielson, who is more popular and who do people know more? Obviously Undertaker. That's why WWE main eventers get talked about much more than any other wrestler, because they get the most exposure out of any other wrestlers from any other promotion. So why do people think that every WWe main eventer is "overrated"?

Just reading that and then looking your question again lost me completely at what you're trying to get at, especially since that statement seemed completely off-topic. Of course people will talk about Undertaker more, but most of the people calling someone like The Undertaker overrated aren't even comparing him to Bryan Daneilson or anyone else in the Independent Circuit.

But to your question, you basically said it: a lot people start to call a wrestler overrated because they get more exposure than everyone else while being considered a champion of "main-eventer". However, a lot of people just don't know what it means to be "overrated" and just label anyone that has a big fanbase as exactly that.

To be overrated, you have to get more acclaim than you deserve, whether it be due to your gimmick or due to the ability you show in wrestling matches, and this is not restricted to just "WWE guys". All of the people you named in your rant aren't really overrated except for possibly Randy Orton, as he is the one many claim to be such a great on the roster, yet he has not proven it in comparison to the others you named.

Some people think WWE main-eventers are overrated because they barely go outside of their generic moves and actions in matches, don't really draw people in by being more like themselves, and they all seem like generic, vanilla "superheroes" or "supervillians" not getting over for just being skilled in the ring, but by other things, such as catchphrases, a rebellious gimmick, a cool "look", or a "cool" Finishing Move.

I dont know. I think its because that people like Randy Orton or John Cena or HHH are seen in the Main Event scene too much. Maybe some people think that their skills arent good enough to be in the Main Event.

My opinion: I think that these wrestlers can be overrated at times however i dont watch wwe or american wrestling period anymore because its soooooo boring. I'm watching puro matches from the 90's, mostly AJPW matches that have gotten 5 stars from meltzer like misawa/kobashi vs kawada/taue 95

BTW: the seikigun speacial was epicly brutal

because anyone who is successful has their fair share of haters, people hate on cena constantly but the fact is cena has the look, he has the mic skills and charisma to be a world champion, regardless if you like his gimmick or not, not to mention he isn't as bad a wrestler as people say he is, he can have great matches with a lot of people, he's a much better wrestle then sheamus or batista but no one gives them a hard time

Because people are hypocrites. In 2008 everyone wanted the The Underaker to become WHC. Half of those same people are now saying he's overrated, he's slow, and he needs to retire.

Because some people don't have the necessary skills to belong in the main event such as Billy Gunn.

Because alot of people on here think they know a lot about the wrestling business, when really they dont.
