Dog Shows...Chinese Crested Question?

I was watching the Eukanuba dog show last night and I had a question. Why is the Chinese Crested not shown by coat type such as with the dachshund (sorry if I slaughtered) the last one. Is it because the dachshund have different builds based on their coat type? Or is the only difference strictly coat type? If that is the case why doesn't the Chinese Crested show separate for both Hairless and Powderpuff.

Many Crested owners have been trying to get the breed divided by coat type.

I dont know why Dachshunds are shown differently, but with Cresteds one argument is that both types can appear in the same litter.. you really have no control of what coat type you will get with Cresteds.. with dachshunds one could strive for producing a particular coat type. Different coat types in dachshunds serve different pruposes depending on the type of terrain that the dog would be used on.

And like one person said, there is the issue of numbers.. Cresteds are not as popular of a breed as dachshunds, so there are often fewer cresteds at the show. There's far more dachshunds.

It's simply tradition, based on numbers of dogs entered and how many a single judge can be expected to reasonably evaluate in a single ring. If Chinese Crested ever approached the size entries that Dachshunds often present, they might split the classes by coat.

In Australian Shepherds, if the Open classes are very full, they are divided by coat color. If the entry is small, they do not divide the class.

In Europe Dachshunds are shown in 6 classes: 3 coat types, each in standard and miniature. In the US the standard and miniature size dogs are shown together.
