how can i sell my car if i just bought it and havent put it under my name yet?

i bought a 1988 jeep wrangler about a month and a half ago, i paid the guy and we filled out all of my information n the back of the pinkslip. now i want to sell the jeep and buy another car with the money ill get from the jeep..and i dont want to spend the money or wait time to go put it under my name and THEN sell it. but how can i sell my car if the pinkslip is not under my name? is it a different dmv sheet i have to fill out? the original owner already gave me full possesion and released it from his name from the dmv

also when i sell it do i have to go to the dmv with him? i really wouldnt want to go. and i heard also that b4 i sell it if it hasnt been smogged yet within 90 days since i purchased it, i gotta smog it b4 i can sell it??. I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA.

Did the guy who sold it you get it smogged first? It's a Ca state law that the seller is responsible for the smog certificate. So if he didn't it's now your responsibility. If your information is on the back of the title (pink slip), you need to go to the DMV with the person you're selling it to so the title and registration can be put in his/her name. You'll need to show proof if ID so be sure to bring your CDL with you. Explain that you bought the Jeep and now you're selling it and you've never done a title transfer or registered it.Be sure to bring a current smog certificate as well.

If your info is not on the back of the pink slip, just sell it. Give the paperwork to the new owner, along with the smog certificate and let him/her do the transfer on their own.
