This is taken directly from the NYC school calendar:
March 29 through April 6 - Spring Recess (including Good Friday, Easter and Passover); students return to school on Wednesday, April 7.
And to the person who said it is on "Easter" - well, technically, yes. But in NYC, they usually tie the Spring Recess to wrap around all 8 days of Passover, as you'll notice it does this year!
I'm a NYC public school teacher and it's been like this every year since I started teaching in 1985 except for the very first year I taught. That year it WAS only tied to Easter, and Passover came much later that year. Guess what happened? A whole lot of the teachers didin't show up on Passover! Ever since then, they have tied it to the Passover holiday.
