Glass top stove vs. regular burner style stove....Which do you recommend?

I need a new cooking stove. I'm thinking about getting a glass top stove, but I've never used one before. Do you like yours or do you wish you'd stuck with the old style. Opinions needed. Thanks.

I have a glass top and would never again wish to own a coil-burner stove. You do have to consider a few things:

    1. Your cookware has to be very level on the bottom so the entire surface of the pan sits flat on the burner. Use the edge of a ruler or even a folded piece of paper to assess your pans.

    2. Your cookware needs to be very smooth so you don't scratch the stove if you move the pan. I don't use my old iron skillet anymore.

    3. You need to be very sick and tired of cleaning drip pans and nooks and crannies of your old stove to fully appreciate what a treat a glass top stove is to keep clean.

    4. You have to be willing to keep your cooktop very clean so you don't burn food onto the surface, which is fortunately a very simple chore.

    5. Be careful not to drop anything on the glass---it can break.

In a nutshell, I love my glass top stove and wouldn't have anything else.

I wouldn't recommend it for all these reasons. Sounds like a hearty investment that you just have to keep worrying about...and accidents DO happen, you know? If you are budgeted for a new stove, do something in gas. Get it piped in if you don't have, with basic fixtures, or upgrade to professional, or extra burners if you already have the gas lines. Personally glass tops are my very least fav. They aren't worth the hassle and precautions.

I love the looks and plan on buying a glass top in the next year

Love mine. Easy to keep clean. I use glass wax which is the same as the ceramic top cleaner, but much less expensive.

I love mine. It is so much easier to keep clean, and when not in use, it gives me some extra counter space.
